<p>Weatherby, I suspect that the 6.6% “Unknown” is probably Asian, White, or both</p>
<p>"BTW, I started a new thread on the Prep School Admissions board, about why no elite BS in Asia? "</p>
<p>My daughter briefly attended an academically demanding boarding school in ‘Greater China’ … I think the primary reasons why that school would not be ranked is because it is in a backwater location, only teaches English as a second language, and therefore does not necessarily prepare kids for a Western College education.</p>
<p>first, i would like to clarify that I do not study in an international school in Hong Kong.
The education system in HK is starkly different from America. There are international schools, which only account for a small percentage. There are also Private Schools that receive subsidies from the government but operate in an autonomy. So these schools do not charge sky high tuition like the mentioned American International School. (side note: American International isn’t anywhere “elite” compare to other international schools in Hong Kong) In my school, the tuition is less than 5000USD a year, not to mention that I’m on scholarship. So my family does qualify for FA.
Moreover, my school DOES adopt an English curriculum. As a matter of fact, most elite schools (including elite public schools) in Hong Kong teach in English. I reckon Wikipedia didn’t make that clear.
Also, my school IS in fact an elite school. (proven by its membership in the G20 Schools Group, of which Exeter and Andover are a part of)
YuhikoJay: Isn’t your post a little bit contradictory? “world renowned in china”… It wouldn’t be “world” renowned if its only sound in china, would it? The school choir came first in the “World Choir Games”, in which teams from over 82 nations participated in.</p>
<p>cjprep: in china, many competitions and awards are claimed to be internationally acknowledged blah blah blah, when its all hype just to make the competition sound more legit and prestigious.
I hope I havent offended you. I just really have an issue with China in general.</p>
<p>YuhikoJay: It’s okay, I understand that China has a lot of issues, especially those about fraud. SAT results, report cards, anything can be fake. It’s just that I take a lot of pride in the school’s choral society.</p>
