Ask A Current Penn Student

Will people make fun of me if I say 'hella'? (I'm from california)

Are there enough athletic fields to support all the club and intramural sports, frisbee especially?...this is something I'm really interested in, I didn't see all that much open space when I was looking around.

you definitely didn't look hard enough! =p

And there are fields, because I love frisbee too. Ultimate, that is, not just tossing around the frisbee like some Californian hippie (just giving you a hard time). In addition to Hill Field, there is this Bowers, located here:

and looking like this:

http://www.facilities.upenn.edu/mapsBldgs/view_bldg.php3?id=149

I hope that convinces you to come to Penn. I mean, that grass is pretty green.

This is Hill Field, fyi. As you can see, there is a walkway running through it, but as I see that is an ideal sideline, along with that busy street on the other side (moving vehicles can really add some adrenaline ot a game of Ultimate). And, once again, the grass is exceptionally green.

Jackpot. Here is a map of ALL the fields at Penn.

Thanks guys. I hope the competition is up, right now I usually just join in on pickup games at Stanford.

Do UPenn count the points you get added to your grade for taking honors and AP classes?

mbhA999 - I presume you're talking about how GPA is considered for admissions here...Penn does unweight and recalculate your GPA, discounting non-academic classes. Except for Cali GPAs, probably because it would take too long to recalculate them all?

I was thinking like if you were in A.P. Biology and you got a 90 but since your high school give you 7 points for taking an AP course they give you a 97, and then colleges just see it as a 90, or do they see it as a 97?

the same thing with honor classes to

Hello,
My son has been accepted at Upenn, Williams, Amherst and Trinity and is leaning toward Penn even though it would be the most expensive although still relatively cheap with the aid package he's been offered (almost $33k in grants). But Trinity would only cost $500.00/year. Please give us your thoughts on this difficult decision.

Also, he's been bright enough to excel at high school without having to work at it much. What should he expect at Penn? Is the fact that he was admitted strong enough evidence that he can handle it or might he have to struggle to stay even with so many other excellent students who are used to really applying themselves?

Ory, I'd say if you can swing Penn financially, do it. He'll be alright with the work most likely, he may have to work harder than in h.s., may get a few c's early on, but he'll most likely be ok.

I'm from Philadelphia and I say hella alot.

Hi, I'm interested in doing the pre-orientation programs at penn, but I'm interested in Pennacle and Pennquest. Can I apply to both of them, then choose one over the other if I get accepted to both?

I have a question: Am I REQUIRED to live in the dorms first and second year? Just curious because I will probably have proprietary materials that have non disclosure documents and cant be in a non secure place. Thanks.

mooses41,

Are "C" grades common, or mostly received by slackers?

How does one find out about the acceptance at wharton once waitlisted, considering im an international student...?

mahras2, you are mysterious!
You don't have to live in the dorm, Penn has a commuting student population of around 1%. So it's possible, but not very common.

ory-gone, I think Penn will best prepare your child for the real world, especially in comparison to LACs.

JohnnyK, nothing mysterious. I will be managing some investor cash and will probably have non disclosure forms signed etc so cant have confidential stuff lying around. And I dont trust college kids will not take my comp and my system. ;) Gotta think of this you know. I will probably commute.
