Hey guys, im planning to apply ED for Upenn engineering
I just have a couple of questions:

if i dont have a math teacher recommendation, is this okay? i have two science teacher recs.
I dont think i have the time now to ask a teacher for a rec, he will probably say no...

Also, can someone tell me about the Jerome-Fischer program from experience? i heard that its really impossible and that the kids who go through it dont even see day light...
I want to do a program like that but not as intensive. If i dont apply for the dual degree program like that, but later on if i get into the college, can i double major into wharton business school then? Or do i have to decide now whether im double majoring.

I don’t know if this will help you but on UPENN’s website, it strongly encourages applicants to Wharton and SEAS to take AP Calculus by the end of high school. Does this mean that they really value math? I just got my AP calc teacher to write my recommendation letter but I’m sure you’ll be fine. It did say to get recommendations from areas where you want to pursue in college and a SEAS student will most likely be focused in math and science.
I’m applying to Jerome Fisher program just for the heck of it although the essay is giving me some trouble. It’s really really hard to get into (about 50 people / year, some spots are reserved for international students) but it doesn’t hurt to try I’m not sure about the whole double major thing because I know how exclusive Wharton can be and I don’t know if UPENN will allow its students to take too many courses at Wharton without being actually enrolled in Wharton.

you don’t need a math teacher recommendation (or specifically any subject, though applicability helps)

the point is to demonstrate superior quantitative ability, and if your application does this in some form already, the math recommendation may even be superfluous if it says nothing more about you than do your test scores and transcript

The Jerome Fischer and Vagelos MLS programs at Penn are really intense.

That being said, I don’t think Jerome Fischer is by anyways undoable. I am in Vagelos MLS right now and its been fine though a bit tough. Know that if you expect to do well in most of the special programs (Vagelos LMS, Huntsman, etc…) that you should expect to be a top caliber student within Penn which is not necessarily anything easy to do.

so, your saying i should try and apply for the program just for the heck of it? if i get in, can i decline going through that program if im still really unsure by then. Or what if i dont get in, but i still want to take business, what do i do then?

so, if i do get in, can i still have the option to bail and go straight for engineering? and what if i decide later on to do business, am i not aloud to do this?

I believe you are able to drop out of any of these programs at any time though don’t necessarily quote me on that. Thats how it is in Vagelos MLS at least.
