can anyone help me out with my question earlier regarding the importance of the mae? If i choose to take it, am i wasting my time as a poly sci major or is there added benefits in taking it now than in the future.

I started reading Economy by Hnery David Thoreau from Walden, but I’m not sure if I have to complete the discussion questions in depth with paragraphs. Also, does anyone know if the on-line quiz is available? I looked in the assignments folder in the iLearn site, but the folder is empty…

@rickster, I am the same major as you!! WOO but I did take it just in case I change majors.

ok, so on growl, the last time i checked, under housing, it said: May 10, 2011 $250 <credit> </credit>

does this mean that my payment got there or not?? thanks.

Socialgirasol, that means your account has been credited $250. And the institution only credits your account if they have received some sort of payment. If I remember correctly, the $250 is for the housing deposit. If so, then the university has received your check/cash payment for the housing deposit.

@darkprince: thanks for affirming what i thought! (:

does anyone know if we can get a job at ucr while we’re on the summer bridge program?

Socialgirasol, do you have work study?

darkprince: yes

ive decided to take the mae in case i want to change majors later on in the year (currently in chass for poly sci). However, math is not my forte; it is actually far from it.

All i really want is to place into math 5 or math 8b.

i took algebra 2 in jr year of high school, did well and loved it.
did precal/trig over that summer and didnt learn crap…
took calc ap my senior year and ended up dropping out of it after a couple of months. (shame shame on me)

Basically, my trig sucks a lot but i fear that i will flunk so bad on the mae that i will end up taking a math lower than math 5 and i dont want that. I have a precal/trig book from high school (borrowing from old math teacher). Can someone give me a guideline on what to study for under trig? thank you! darn im worried.

socialgirasol, with Federal work study you will be eligible to look for work during the entire school year but I do not think you will find a campus job in such a short amount of time. You could begin looking for possible positions for the Fall and start applying while you are doing the summer bridge program though.

Rickster, the MAE as I remember it was pretty easy. My brother is starting to come here next year, and just with precalc he passed it with flying colors. The thing with the MAE and subsequent tiers is that they’re pretty well thought out. To be placed in math 5, you’d need a pretty good (or at least decent) understanding of trig, whereas if you understood everything except trig, you’d be placed in math 8B. You shouldn’t be too worried, just pick up a small review book and start reviewing! There were some VERY easy questions on it, IMO!

Sorry, I meant math 8A, not 8B. 8A and 5 are practically the same level, but 8B is practically like 9A.

Hi. I plan to dorm at pentland hills next year in a double. I am also doing random for my roommate. I don’t have trust issues, it’s just that you really don’t know the person well enough. I plan to go home every or every other weekend. This leads me to think if my things would be safe when I’m gone because no one is watching my room. And I was wondering how they pair your roommate up? Besides the preferences, is it by your former high school, race, major or what? Thanks.

it’s completely random. definitely not former high school (they couldnt care less), race (uhhhh, segregation is illegal), and major is only for special interest housing, which you have to sign up for.

if you’re worried at all, get a locking filing cabinet or small safe for any valuables you might leave in your room.

i looked at the ucr classes and it said that chemistry 1a requirement is math 5. What if u take math 8a and 8b? can u still take chem 1a without taking math 5.

i got placed into math 4 for the mae they said i can take math 8a for 2nd quarter then 8b then 9b for sophomore year first quarter.

im a poly sci major right now but i was thinking of neuroscience. The math requirement for that major is 9b. You think this plan is okay? or do you think i should do something over summer. not this summer, next summer. thanks for your input

I got placed into Eng004, but can I take 001A at the same time?
what’s the difference between AP chem and chem 001A?
Is multivariable calc required for biochem or all the uc students?
if so, am I allowed to take calc at CC??

rickster - the prereqs for chem1a are “(MATH005 with a grade of “C-” or better OR MATH008B with a grade of “C-” or better)”, so you’ll be fine after you take 8b.

ssyeon0325 - No to your first question, and im not sure about your other questions.

Am I the only one who took an IB exam?
Right now I’m really worried that UCR will never receive my score…the process for IB exam scores to be sent is pretty dam annoying…I have to send a score request to IB HQ, and from there, it takes 1-2 weeks to process and send it (there HQ is in Maryland…) The exams came out on July 4 (around there.) I’m worried that they won’t receive it soon, and the score I need them to receive (IB English HL score) will satisfy the ELWR…I was placed into Engl 4, and since I got IB credit, it satisfies the score and gives me credit for English 001A. There was only a couple weeks to send it in before the deadline, so my question is, do you think UCR will still accept scores after the deadline? (sorry for the wall of text, kinda hard to explain)

For your certain circumstance I think you should call UCR and explain yor situation properly. For me last year they gave me a few extra days to send in a transcript cause there were a few problems happening at my school that slowed down the process.
