For Question #2: Yes you can pick specific roommate. Make sure to put ur best friends name in the desired roommate section in the housing contract and make sure ur friend does the same.

I think the AC is INCLUDED in the Dorm Bill. If not, then I don’t think they charge you for it, since everyone uses it? I don’t think they would bill specific people for AC o_o;I’m not too sure though.

AC is included in your bill.

The best place to live in is East Lothian.
Pentland is lonely.

Good cause i’m keeping it on 24/7 during the summer.

haha same here mate

Where do I find my NET ID for UCR? Is it under “My UCR Identifiers”? If so, which is it interchangeable with? I’m not too sure because it does not say “NET ID” exactly.

People who completed housing contract for UCR I need help ASAP!!! Thank you!!!

Nvm. I just read the FAQs, "it usually takes 24-72 hours for a NET ID to be issued after a students submits their SIR. Thanks.

Whats the lowest English class that freshmen take at UCR? What are the others? Can you please categorize them by the level of competitiveness?

Purpleserenity1 -
That depends on how well you score on the placement exam. None of the English classes are “competitive” in the sense that there are limited spots for each level of English, if that’s what you mean. There can be multiple class time-slots for students on any level of English.

Students who aren’t really proficient in English because it’s their second language are placed in BSWT003 (Basic Writing for Second-Language Students).

However, most students will either place into the following (from easiest to most difficult):
ENGL004 (English Writing)
ENGL001A (Beginning Composition)
ENGL001B (Intermediate Composition)
ENGL001C (Applied Intermediate Composition)

Assuming you’re a native speaker of English and you take the placement exam, the lowest you can be placed is ENGL004. ENGL004 will NOT count toward the University-wide English sequence requirement. All students are required to take ENGL001 A, B, AND C. ENGL004 is just a way of working up to ENGL001A. If you do better on the test, you’ll be placed into ENGL001A.

If you get 3 or higher on the AP English Composition test, you get credit for ENGL001A.
If you get 3 or higher on both the AP English Composition AND AP English Literature exams, you can skip ENGL001A and 1B and go straight to 1C.

What about math?

Jeffrey99 -
Math is a little more tricky. Not everyone is required to take it. I haven’t taken it because neither of my majors require math, so I can’t tell anything with great certainty about what kind of material is on the exam.

If anyone has taken the math placement exam, feel free to correct me or add info.

If you are in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) or Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE), you MUST take the math placement exam.

If you are in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) you need to take the math placement exam if your major is one of the following:
- Pre-Business/Business Administration
- Psychology
- Neuroscience
- Liberal Studies
- Economics
- Economics/Administrative Studies
- Economics/Law and Society
- Business Economics
- Political Science/Administrative Studies
- Sociology/Administrative Studies
- History/Administrative Studies
- Art History/Administrative Studies
- Interdisciplinary Studies (Depends if your concentrations are any of the majors listed above; check with your academic adviser to be sure.)

When you take the Mathematics Advisory Exam, you can be placed into (Not in any particular order):
- MATH004 (Intro to College Math for Business and Social Sciences)
- MATH008 (Intro to College Math for the Sciences)
- MATH005 (Pre-calculus)
- MATH015 (Contemporary Math for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; Pre-calculus equivalent course)
- MATH9A/B/C (First-Year Calculus series)
- MATH011 (Intro to Discrete Structures)
- MATH022 (Calculus for Business)
- MATH023 (Applied Matrix Algebra; Calculus)

You are exempt from taking the Math Advisory Exam (MAE) with:
- A score of 3 or higher on AP Calculus AB/BC exam.
- Completion of a UC-transferable course at the pre-calculus level or higher with a grade of “C-” or better taken at another college or university before enrolling at UCR.

Again, if anyone has taken the math placement exam, feel free to correct me or add info.

Yeah I put down Political Science as my major but I’m thinking about changing it to Political Science/International Affairs.

I barely passed Algebra II in 10th grade,I failed Pre-calc in 11th grade(never retook it), and I’m doing okay in AP Stats.Hopefully I won’t have to take any math cause I’ll likely be placed low.

Do you know what kind of math they cover in MATH004?

To shesasensation:

Last year at least, the test was pass/fail. If you failed you were placed in English 004, and if you passed you were placed in 1A. You were unable to be placed into 001B or 001C unless you had already taken and passed the AP exam.

Thank you so much Shesasensation, your answer was perfect!

if you haven’t signed up yet, highlander day is this weekend! you and 4000 of your closest friends checking out the campus on the rise…UC Riverside!

[Highlander Day](http://highlanderday.ucr.edu)

arcadefire1027 -
Thanks! I should have made that more clear.

Jeffrey99 -
I think you’re fine. I was looking at the UCR Course Catalog ([UC Riverside - General Catalog](<a href=“The Office of the Registrar | UC Riverside”>http://catalog.ucr.edu/), for anyone interested) and basically all the classes required in either Political Science or Political Science/International Affairs are in the Political Science department (rather than being a mix from different departments like Business and Statistics, which Political Science/Administrative Studies requires).

However, when you meet your academic adviser during Bear Facts Orientation, you should ask them to be sure.

About MATH004 - I’ve never taken it, so I’m ripping this from the course catalog:

“MATH 004. Introduction to College Mathematics for Business and the Social Sciences (5 (units)) Lecture, 5 hours.
Prerequisite(s): a sufficiently high score on the Mathematics Advisory Examination, as determined by the Mathematics Department. Not open to students in the Bourns College of Engineering or the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences or to students majoring in Economics or Business Economics.
Covers functions and their graphs, including linear and polynomial functions, zeroes, and inverse functions as well as exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and their inverses. Also includes counting, including elementary probability. Involves applications to business and social sciences.
Credit is awarded for only one of MATH 004, MATH 005, or MATH 008A.”

I’ll ask it again because no one replied…

How are the apartments on campus?

I am looking into Bannockburn Village & Plaza Apartments and Stonehaven Student Apartments

Hello. I just have a quick question about senior grades. I’m not at risk of failing any classes, but my grades this semester could be considerably lower than my junior and sophomore years. Would just a general poor performance cause them to deny my admission, or as long as I don’t fail any classes is it fine?

just don’t fail and you should be ok
