Ask a Freshmen

What are some of the best extracurricular activities available to students and how easy are they to access? Also, what kind of courses are usually taken during Freshmen year? Is class registration difficult/stressful?

is it possible to get a single room as a freshman?
if so, how hard is it to get?
i’ve had so many roommates…mostly good ones, but some bad ones.

@jlee98: yes it is possible, i know numerous people who have singles and are happy

@emoryhopeful95: honestly there are just so many ways to get involved here. i know that sounds annoying but when you get here you’ll understand. Furthermore its how you utilize/participate in ECs that can make you stand out or blend in the crowd.

Yes, it is possible to get a single as a freshman. I had a single when I lived in Turman. As for how difficult it is, I’m not entirely sure but I imagine there isn’t an overwhelming demand so it should be fairly easy to get if that’s what you want.

In terms of extracurriculars, like what was said above, there are just a ton of things to do and it really all depends on your interests.

Class registration does tend to be pretty stressful as a freshman because there you have the last sign up time (compared to upperclassman) and there are a ton of students trying to take essentially the same classes. These classes are generally the pre-reqs for majors (specifically the business school pre-reqs, biology, chemistry, etc), freshman writing classes, freshman seminars, Math 111/112, or the intro classes that are popular like Econ 101, Sociology 101, etc. Odds are you won’t get all the classes you want to take so you’ll have to be flexible and choose what is most important to you. For me, this involved dropping the freshman seminar I wanted to take and taking 8:30 Chem.
