Could someone please chance me?
It would be greatly appreciated!

I read on the mcgill web site that to apply to more than two faculties, you just need to fill in another application and pay the second application fee.

Hi Tom! I was wondering how easy/difficult it is to transfer between schools within Mcgill? As i applied to Desaults for Bcomm, and also the Arts as a secondary, I was rejected by Desaults but accepted into Arts. And i think i want to do Bcomm, but also wouldnt mind studying Economics if I cannot transfer. Thanks!

Hello Tom!
I was admitted to McGill’s Desautels faculty of Management and I have already accepted the offer. Now I am wondering that , if I anticipate to enter into american top graduate universities. Will McGill’s diploma help me a great deal?
Additionally, how do you think of the teachers in faculty of management?
thanks:)

@takrtakr: It is possible to transfer into Desautels but Management has one of the highest entry requirements at McGill.

@qew986: A McGill degree will be well recognized by all American grad and professional schools. If you are seeking an MBA, then at least two years of full time work experience post bachelor’s is required. I found the Desautels faculty very approachable. It is up to you to build relationships. Some students only visit during office hours to complain about a grade. Not a good way to ingratiate yourself. I am 12 years out and I still occasionally communicate with a prof in international business.

Hi Tom,
What do you think about International Management at McGill?

@tomofboston

That would probably explain why i was rejected by Desautels. Reason: did not meet academic requirements.

but i thought i did…so i was wondering if you knew what the requirements for management were? (IB student btw)

Sorry takrtakr, not at all familiar with IB.

@bovkd1: Deasautels has a strong international focus. I entered (1995) as undecided and sort of drifted into an international management major based on some interesting courses in that area. It led to my first job with a French bank!

I’m an American student and I know for schools in the United States kids have to get a physical exam and have all this paper work filled out for the college. Does Mcgill require this? All I can find is that I have to okay the health insurance.

@Alistair17: For US students, Mcgill does not require any physical exams and stuff. All you have to do is okay the health insurance and you’re ready to go.

@tomofboston

I read in a post somewhere (may have been on this thread) that you are engaged in international business of some form. I am also interested in pursuing a career in this field post-graduation (I’m planning on continuing to learn chinese and follow a path of that nature). Just wondering, what did you study at McGill? Did you attend grad school? In short, what path did you follow to get to where you are today and what part did McGill play in that path?

Welcometoearth: I will PM you.

Hello Tomofboston. Thank you for doing this.

My daughter got accepted into McGill. We are in the process making a decision. I have a couple of questions.

 1. My daughter wants to go to med school back in the States after college, do you know if a undergrad degree from a foreign school like McGill would hinder her chance to get into a top med school here in any way? (She is a U.S. citizen born and raised here and we have no family connections in Canada).
 2. On-campus job interviews: Did you see U.S companies go to McGill campus for job fairs/interviews for senior class? A more general question - Does a Canadian degree hinder your job prospect/search here?
 3. How about alumnus network here in the States? Is this just confined to Northeast? Do you know anything about the network in California or Midwest (e.g., Chicago)?

Thank you so much for your input!

@DadINChicago: Hi! While McGill is a “foreign” school, Canadian universities are fully recognized by US grad and professional schools. In fact, all Canadian medical schools are fully accredited by the American medical accrediting board (LCME I believe is the name). The requirements and standards for entering medical school are the same in Canada and the US so premed preparation is also the same. Some have claimed that McGill has “grade deflation”. I take this to mean that there are very few easy A’s at McGill.

Re: alumni network. It is very strong in the Northeast. I cannot speak for other regions of the US.

Re: on campus recruiting: There were a few companies recruiting specifically for jobs in the US. American and other international students interviewed with the Canadian division of US companies and the results were forwarded to US recruiters. Having a McGill degree will not adversely affect a job search. Many employers will look at the fact that an applicant went to school “outside the box” as a plus.

In making a decision to attend McGill, it is important to consider it as an adventure. You will be in a foreign country, in a province and city where English has no official status but is widely spoken both as a mother tongue and second language while at the same time you are only 40 miles from the US border. Montr

Wow, u make McGill sound very exciting! I plan to puruse the same course as u at Desautels. Im not sure what major yet… So, do u think that studying at mcgill significantly helped u in finding a job? Also, what do u think about the BCom program at mcgill.
I rejected an offer from Richard Ivey, and many ppl are making me regret it, sayying that its a better program, more opportunities etc… and that mcgills bcom program isnt that great.
PLease tell me ur honest opinion, plus some guy called econgrad on this site is making mcgills bcom program sound horrible…

thanks

Hi Tom:
I wanna know soething about employments opportunities in Montreal. I am an international student from China. When I graduated from BCom in McGill, is it easy for me to get a job in Montreal?

To get a career job in Montreal, a strong knowledge of French is virtually required. With that criterion met, there are many opportunities in the city. While Montreal is not Toronto or New York, there are many companies headquartered there.

Do you know if there is someone who was rejected after being admitted pending final results because of a drop in last trimester ???

^, i have the same question,

but for IB students. I was predicted 36/42 points for commerce, how much will i need in the final minimum to keep it?

No idea re: IB but in general at any university you would need to fail a course and not graduate high school or perhaps go from all A’s to all C’s and D’s to have your admission rescinded.
