Hi! I’m going into grade 11 this sept. and I’ve been interested for a while in attendin McGill for their dietetics program…
I have a few general questions that a current student from McGill or someone who just knows a lot about McGill can answer…

The Entrance Scholarship is 94% minimum for all 3M, 3U, 4M, and 4U classes… Does that mean 94% Overall average of 94% per course/credit? (By the way I’m a Ontario High School Student)

Since I’m entering “Freshman Year” at McGill, do I still pay the same tuition price as a normal student would? (For the Fall/Winter term) or do out of province/US/international students pay a different price?

Are “Freshmans” considered first year?

Do Scholarships cover the cost of summer courses too? (The Dietetics program has summer co-op which is 3 and 5 credits each then a 14 credit co-op placement from sept-dec)

What is a 3.7 GPA standing?!?
I supposedly need 92.5% every year to keep renewing the entrance scholarship but i think getting 92.5% average is really hard… My friend who got the presidents scholarship (At York) only has to get 87% to keep her scholarhip :S

McGill’s social life?
I’ve been hearing from people that McGill is a “party school” because the drinking age in Quebec is 18 and supposedly they go party often…

Which Rez should I go to?
(craziest/best social life, single room, no meal plan, not too expensive…etc.)

How many people actually graduate?? Is McGill a hard school to survive in? I know that for my program you need to get a GPA of 3 or CGPA of 2.0 to “pass” or continue with studying

1) The mean of the grades included in the calculations must be over 94%. That is, the sum of every grade divided by total number of graded courses > 94.

2) You pay out-of-province tuition.

3) Yes (it’s American lingo.)

4) No. I’m also not sure why you would be charged tuition for serving out an internship?

5) I won’t lie, 3.7 is indeed pretty hard, but not impossible. I’m not sure what you mean by “what is a 3.7 GPA standing.” To paraphrase Stein: a 3.7 is a 3.7 is a 3.7. It is not, however, necessarily a 92.5:

8) Supposedly the first year attrition rate is 25%. I don’t know how reliable that number is, nor do I know how it compares to, say, UoT, so take that how you will.

Can you explain the social setting of all the different McGill Residences? And then talk about the different cafeterias and which one is the best??

Hi Tom! I have a question about the student age at McGill. Are there any students in their thirties pursuing a bachelor’s degree at McGill? Thank you.

I’m a freshman student studying engineering at an American university. I am considering transferring to McGill next fall as a sophomore. How hard will it be to transfer into the engineering school?

i’m a prospective international student. is it hard to get into the mcgill graduate school (earth and planetary science) with an upper second class degree??

sunnybb: Yes, I do see some pursuing Bachelors in that age range. However, from my experience (current third year undergrad in my mid-twenties), the majority of undergrads fall under the 18 - 22 age range.

McGILL ADMISSION APPLICATION INFO
Hey tomofboston,
I am an undergrad student currently finishing my A-Levels. Now when I was filling out the McGill application form, I had to include my A-Level results and the name of the institute last attended (I am not sure I inferred this correctly and this seems to be the problem). I did grades 1-10 and completed my O-Levels from South Breeze School and then moved to Mastermind School for A-Levels (grades 11 and 12). So McGill now wants my high school transcripts from Mastermind. Do they mean transcripts for grades 11 and 12 only or do they want the entire high school record. If so what should I do about the fact that I did grades 9 and 10 at another school the name of which I did not mention in the application form (maybe because they dint seem to have wanted it?)
Any ideas guys? I emailed McGill but they are taking too long to reply…>.>

Just got into the faculty of Arts I’m looking to pursue the Honors Economics course at McGill. Other than classroom study, are there opportunities for undergraduates to get involved in research at the college or through internships, or is studying mainly confined to the class? Also, how big or small are average classes?
