ask a USC student anything 2

chilltown -- don't order it, that stuff is crap. go to bed bath & beyond instead

Does B, B & B sell extra-long stuff?

yeah, they have a whole section for students going to college

oh dear i saw your profile name and it made me want to cry because i have a HUGE 1984/Brave New World/A Clockwork Orange essay due in a few days for AP.

Target also sells long bed stuff.

I'm a transfer student whos been admitted into the class of 09'. Are there any specific dorms on campus thats predominately for "transfers." That would be so cool meeting other people around my age and also other transfers.. Also, In order to graduate on time, I will need to take 2 semesters of 5 classes and then 2 semesters of 4 classes. I think the first year that I'm year, I'm going to take my core/ ge classes and then finish up my core and senior concentration my last year there. Is it really difficult to tackle 20 units a semester? I'm kind of intimated by that number. haha

Question for current transfers, or if you know answer...
i'll be entering as sophomore transfer.

-What should i do for housing?
-I heard last year most of the transfers were housed on campus?
-ALSO, since you have to rank the buildings, would it be bad if all of my rankings are the popular buildlings which are full?
-Will i have better chance if i choose 'less popular' buildlings to rank instead?
Any and all responses appreciated. Thanks!

Anybody know the average GPA needed to get into Marshall "for sure" as a transfer student. My son is interested in possibly transferring to USC from Indiana University's business program--so I have a personal reason for asking. His current GPA is right around 3.6--and I notice that on the Marshall website it says "Applicants who earn a minimum 'B' grade in each prerequisite course and maintain an overall cumulative 3.6 grade point average will have an advantage in the evaluation process"

Also, I notice in the literature that the average university transfer applicant accepted to USC has a 3.57 GPA.

So is this about the average for Marshall as well? And what else do they look at besides whether you took the prerequisities and got good grades?

Lastly, he just finished his freshmen year--so I presume he should apply for acceptance in Fall 2008--correct?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

hi Calcruzer, i'm new to this forum.

I just got accepted as a junior transfer for fall 2007. I didn't have the most amazing grades, i managed to keep my grades borderline of above average, 3.5-3.6 and i got accepted into Marshall.

I honestly believe that i got in because of my essay. haha I needed something to compensate for my barely above average gpa and leaned towards a lot of charity and non profit organization volunteer work. Ex. i donated my hair to locks-of-love after growing it for 4 years, became part of Big Brother Big Sister program, did a lot of aids walk and fundraising... things like that, oh, and my entire application was a resemblance of my personality, i didn't fabricate anything or tried to make myself sound like Einstein...

For one of the quick reponse questions, it asked me for any unusual hobbies i had and i responded with, the only thing unusual in my life is how one of my toes grew out to be abnormally shorter than the rest, aside from my pinky. LOL

i don't know, i'm a ball of happiness and i was aiming for that in my application. I guess it worked, who knows?

last year at transfer oreintation, it was announced that housing was guaranteed for all transfers, but they re-worked the whole housing system and they already ran out of spaces to accomodate current students. Of course, spaces will open up because of cancelations and etc, but you should have a back up just in case because no one knows what is going to happen.

oh yeah, most of the housing wasn't on campus. there aren't that many non freshman spaces on campus anyway. You should be lucky to even get usc housing. even the less popular buildings are good. I visited friends in Portland street house, founders, annenberg house (the less popular buildings) and I thought it was ok. Those places can still be social. I lived in one one of the most popular buildings and I wouldn't have mind living in them. The only difference is that they are further away than the popular ones.

just apply for housing with your top choices and select that you would accept any housing assignment given to you. check out city park and conquest's roommate search too for non-USC options. but I would wait it out to see if I could get USC housing because its probably the best deal especially for a new student

a question about roomate....I just realized that I was assigned with a roomate who is totally different from me--for example, I need to sleep early while she sleeps late.....
so I am wondering....is it possible to change roomate at this time? and also, I really like my room assignment, so is it possible to change the roomate but not the room? thx a lot guys!

Haha, I somehow doubt you can kick the roommate out of her already assigned room. If you can't deal with it, then it's up to you to change rooms which means you may not even get your preferred housing choice anymore.

Calcruzer - My son a junior is hoping for Marshall, but also Indiana. Can you tell me what he liked or didn't like about Indiana?
