Do the dorm rooms have full length mirrors or is that something people bring? Also are there desk lamps and cork bulletin boards?
Do people bunk their beds?

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer all these questions.

Dorms have full length mirrors for the most part. The are cork bulletin boards, but no desk lamps. Some people bunk their beds.

I think Willard was the exact opposite of your answer, arbiter. We had upper-body-length mirrors but not full length (many people, mostly girls, brought their own and put them on the back of the doors). We did not have cork boards. And our desks came with a light built in.

I was reading about how acceptance into the Business Certificate program is competitive. With around 50 students being allowed to partake in the two respective programs. I will be coming from McCormick, and so I will most likely be looking at applying to the Managerial Analytics coursework. I really want to do this set of courses, so in reality, how hard would it be for me to get into it?

^ That really depends on what your GPA is and what types of courses you've chosen to take.

Oh yah, my bad- almost all desks DO have built in lights- I always forget about mine because its rarely plugged in.

Okay, so I'm wondering about getting textbooks for fall quarter. Since I don't find out what classes I'm taking until New Student Week, do I -have- to buy them from Norris? Or will I have time to get them from Amazon or any other site online? And for my Freshman Seminar, should I get my books now? (I'm in Chemistry of Art, if anyone here took that last year)

Wait till school to get your books, the list could change. Also, you don't have to buy from Norris- you can shop at Becks as well. Amazon, it really depends on the shipping you select, but bare in mind that the mail rooms are very backed up at the beginning of the year for a couple of weeks.

another option is to use your dorm listserv to try to buy books off of sophomores that have the intro textbooks. That can save you a lot of money!

@Rhapsody -- is Chemistry of Art taught by Northrup? If so, you're probably going to love that seminar. Fred is an amazing professor and mentor, not to mention very knowledgeable in art-related chemistry analysis techniques.

Yep, my professor's Northrup!

I'm even more excited about it now! :)

when i had my upenn interview, the guy told me to try to get my hands on this book which is basically compiled by students and its like, a rating/review book on every professor so incoming students who to take for which class.

is there something similar like this at NU?

Yes, it's called CTECS.

https://aquavite.northwestern.edu/ctec/

wats aquavite?

its prompting for username and password

Use your NetID and PW to access the course evaluations.

Wow, this is great! I wish I'd known about it beforehand!

For our second seminars, do we have to provide another top ten list, or are they just going to assign us one from the list we already submitted?

another top ten list. They offer completely different seminars in the winter and spring.

Is it fine if parents stay in my dorm for a couples days during Orientation?

Uhh....I would NOT recommend that.

Actually, it would be just my dad. We were thinking of saving money by not staying at a hotel. I suppose it might not be a good idea.
