Ask Questions about North Carolina State

Hi ncstatefreshman,

I requested for my houding the tri towers because that was the only central campus dorms i could apply for when filling out my housing application. What are my odds of getting tri- towers and if i have a roommate that i dont like, can i change or am i stuck with them?
Thanks.

Related question about housing. I’m supposed to pick three options, I think, but you said all of the good dorms have probably been taken by mid-April. If I signed up for all three of the tri-towers, would I potentially be placed in another dorm altogether?

Hello ncstatefreshman:

Here’s the link with rankings:

http://**************.com/north-carolina-state-university/rankings/rankings-list/

(I don’t know if links are auto deleted out of posts here so I’ll also share the name: college *******)

Thanks again!

ok… apparently they do…

let me try to fill in the blanks…

the first part of the name is above…

second word is *******

Wow!

…They really do not want me to post that name!

May I suggest you just search key words like: north carolina state campus ranking

Mudgedatch, Thanks for trying! I’ll go on the hunt to find it.

Freshman 2011:

That information is only available to students because you need your Unity ID to log in to get to the page. It’s also not showing up for me right now, or else I would post some of the ESS ranges for you!

Biomedical and Mechanical will be the most competitive, as far as I know. Aerospace is up there, too. But they are all manageable to get into if you’re dedicated to your work!

Jacob6684,

There is definitely a chance that you won’t be put in one of the Tri-Towers. They fill up quickly. It’s easier to get into them if you requested a random roommate, but you could be placed into another dorm because Tri-Towers are very popular.

NCSU4life,

I don’t know your odds for getting into Tri-Towers. Why did you only request housing on Central Campus?

You can definitely change your roommate. You just would need to speak to your RA and then you might have to have a meeting with your RD. And you can only switch if there is an empty spot somewhere else for you, so you may have to wait a little bit. Just stay positive, I’m sure your roommate will be great!

ncstatefreshman,

How accessible are stores in the area? Do you have to go off campus to go shopping for groceries, food, clothing, etc?

Do you know anyone double majoring in Biomedical and Chemical Engineering? How is the work load?

I don’t know of any college campuses with clothing shopping on campus! Do those exist?

NC State has Cameron Village very close to campus, which has a Harris Teeter, a variety of restaurants, and some places to shop for clothes. It’s walkable but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re carrying groceries back. There’s a Wolfline bus that goes there!

I don’t know anyone double majoring in that but CHE is very intense alone so I would assume its a very difficult pathway.

Housing assignment…

Hello ncstatefreshman!

Do you happen to know or recall about when University Housing makes assignments? Our son also filed an application for a learning village so I know that gets thrown into the mix.

Anyway, we’re just looking for a ballpark… like “hmm… seemed like May”, or “June”…or “I didn’t find out until a week before the semester”. He signed up for housing in February.

Thanks!

mudgedatch,

For some reason I have May 5 in my head. Is that around a deadline for Housing Applications this semester?

I know I knew well before I went to orientation in July. If May 5 is way too soon, then it would probably be early June.

Does anyone else have insight about this?

This says May as well!

How hard is it to get in NC State?

Thanks once again ncstatefreashman - NCSU needs to pay you for being such an awesome amassador for the school!

BTW: Cinco de Mayo

Tiaram:

I think you’ll find that most college resource websites/ materials list NCSU as a “difficult” school to gain admission. But it’s all relative based on your definition and point of reference. It’s not as “difficult” as MIT or Yale, but it’s more “difficult” than other schools in the North Carolina system.

I can tell you, I think the admissions staff does a wonderful job of considering each appliant’s comprehensive qualifications. So just a great SAT alone will not necessarily get you admitted - same for your grades.

NSCU accepts less than half of all applicantions.

Your selected major also plays into it quite a bit. If you are interested in engineering you’ll find it extremely competitive.

Good luck!

Tiram,

Mudgedatch did a good job summing it up. The Admissions office considers each application holistically and there is an intern there that has a thread on CC. I would address her/him with further questions.

Mudgedatch:

Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Thank you that helped

Thank you ncstatefreshman. I have another question, how often do you bump into out of state students? Is it quite often or is it pretty rare considering that a majority of students are from NC?
