<p>@jelly765,
There is a hospital about 3 miles away from campus, and most students in the pre-medical track at SCU do participate in undergraduate research. Here’s a link with a little more information: <a href=“Research - Santa Clara University”>http://www.scu.edu/provost/research/undergradresearch.cfm</a></p>
<p>@chiraagdave,
The link I posted earlier didn’t work for some reason, here’s the real link to the list of SCU counselors by state: <a href=“http://www.scu.edu/ugrad/contact/map.cfm”>http://www.scu.edu/ugrad/contact/map.cfm</a></p>
<p>Hi @Homer101,
If you’re not sure about the status of your application, I would email or call your counselor just to make sure you’re not missing anything. The link I posted above will help you find which counselor is yours. </p>
<p>@vschuSCU Hi, I missed the CSS profile deadline by about 5 days, will submit tonight tmrw. The reason was because my parents didn’t have the necessary paperwork in hand. What happens now?</p>
<p>@chiraagdave,
Financial packages are awarded on a first-come first serve-basis, so while you still will be considered for financial aid after you submitted your documents, there’s a chance you might miss out on funds that could have been awarded. </p>
<p>@vschuSCU What merit only scholarships are available if we didn’t fill out the CSS profile? Thanks!</p>
<p>Besides the huge merit scholarships that people seem to have already received, when do the merit-based and financial-based aid letters become available on eCampus?</p>
<p>So I did receive a financial aid letter; however, none of it included merit aid. Is it still possible to receive merit aid or has all of the merit aid been awarded?</p>
<p>Also, should I accept my award before I accept enrollment or should I wait until I enroll?</p>
<p>Hi @dottie97,
If you didn’t fill out the CSS profile, there are also some SCU awards that are based on merit. Here is a link to all of those awards: <a href=“Financial Aid - Santa Clara University”>http://www.scu.edu/financialaid/SCU-Awards.cfm</a></p>
<p>Hi @CuriousDude,
It is still possible to receive merit aid, because those who have applied or will apply Regular Decision have yet to receive their decisions or financial aid letters. The university cannot give out all of its merit based awards during the time of Early Action, because it has to save some of the awards for those who are admitted during Regular Decision. As for the order of accepting your award, as long as you do both by the May 1st deadline you will receive your financial aid package.
I hope that wasn’t too confusing!</p>
<p>@vschuSCU So you’re saying that since I haven’t received any merit awards yet and I was admitted early action, I’ll have to wait until the Regular Decision pool is in to be considered again?</p>
<p>@vschuSCU Thanks for answering all of our questions! If a Johnson Scholar semi-finalist is one of the 50 selected to return to campus, will they receive any additional merit money? Thanks!</p>
<p>@CuriousDude,
It isn’t exactly a matter of being considered again, but whether the university still has money left to give after completing the financial aid packages of the Regular Decision pool. The university does hand out merit awards to those who got in through Early Action, but since you haven’t received any yet, yes, you will have to wait until the Regular Decision pool has gotten theirs to see if you will be getting any in your financial aid package.</p>
<p>@dottie97,
If a semi-finalist is selected to return to campus for the Scholarship Weekend in April, they become a finalist. They do not receive any additional merit money for being a finalist. However if they are a finalist but not one of the 10 to become a Johnson Scholar, they will receive another merit-based scholarship award such as a Presidential, Provost, or Dean’s scholarship. Hope that helps!</p>
@vschuSCU Santa Clara is my dream school, but I barely got any financial aid from them after filling out the css profile. Am I still eligible for more?
@CuriousDude,
Based solely on your css profile, you are unlikely to receive any more financial aid from SCU unless your family’s income dramatically changes, in which case it is very important to notify the financial aid office immediately. For other forms of financial aid, it gets a little tricky because it is determined on a case by case scenario. If you’d like you can call the financial aid office directly and ask them about your situation. Their number is 408-551-1000, and they’re open from 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
@vschuSCU If I got strait A’s first semester senior year, will they also reconsider me for merit scholarships?
Hi @CuriousDude,
A lot of different factors go into the decision of whether or not to award merit scholarships to students, so I can’t say whether or not getting straight A’s first semester will give reason for reconsideration. However it never hurts to bump up your GPA during the process of applying to colleges!
Hi,
I have already been accepted to Santa Clara and the Leavey School and I was wondering what kind of reach the program has. I come from Chicago so the California aspect is really intriguing but does the Leavey School’s network reach areas other than California? Or is work predominantly in the Bay area?
