Hi @btown97,
A lot of the companies in the Bay area do come to Santa Clara University for employment fairs on campus, more so than companies that are from out of the area. However, if you’re interested in companies that are outside of California, Leavey’s program does its best to set you up with those companies, sometimes working with the SCU Alumni network.
@vschuSCU how many semifinalists for the Johnson Scholars are chosen every year?
When will transfer students hear if they get into santa clara?
Hi @teddykris10,
By looking at the website for Johnson Scholars and the selection process, there doesn’t seem to be a limit for the number of semifinalists chosen each year.
Hi @princesskels98,
The counselors have already begun notifying applicants for fall 2015 of their decisions, because it is a rolling process. However, the earlier that you submitted your transfer application, the sooner you will hear back. However, the deadline to apply to April 15th, so you could potentially hear back after that date.
If you’re nominated as a Finalist after the essay portion, do you have to commit to SCU in order to compete for the Johnson Scholarship?
Hi @jelly765,
I don’t believe you have to commit to Santa Clara in order to be considered for the Johnson Scholarship. The students will be let know if they are finalists in early April, and the decision will be made in the weeks following that, which should be before the May 1st deadline.
The brochure on the Scholarship was a little unclear about the dates and details, but if you want to get more information you can contact Amy Shachter at 408-551-7041, or by email at aschachter@scu.edu.
I was wondering what the lgbt (lesbian, gay…)scene is like at SCU? I love the school and the feel of it, but am a little worried about the small size and how this will affect me as part of lgbt!
Hi @futtarheel96,
SCU does an awesome job of supporting and providing resources for the LGBTQ community, this link will describe some of those for you: http://www.scu.edu/cml/resources/lgbtqr.cfm
This second link will also show you more of the resources that are off campus: http://www.scu.edu/cas/wgst/links/lgbtg.cfm
Hi! When looking on the scu transfer site, it states that transfer students are accepted upon space availability and competitiveness in the applicant pool. Are they speaking of space in a certain school or major? I applied as a public health major but a part of me is Wondering whether I should have applied for a different major in the school of arts and sciences and later switched. sorry if that sounds bad. Just worried if it is too impacted and my chances are slim
Hi @peanut56,
The counselors look at the number of students in the college, not the major. Since the Public Health major is in the college of arts and sciences, they will be looking at the availability in the college as a whole entity, instead of major by major.
thank you so much!
If I put down as having two letter of recommendations when I sent in my common application but only one has written it so far, will that suffice or do I absolutely need both professors to write them? Transfer student btw!
Hi @Reflextion,
If you put down that two professors will send in letters of recommendation in the common application you should probably stick with that, depending on if its even possible for the other professor to give a letter, or how quickly the can do it. If you are unable to have another professor send in a letter of recommendation, you should let your admissions counselor know ASAP because otherwise they will be expecting it, and might be thinking that your application is incomplete at the moment. Here is the link to find your admissions counselor: http://www.scu.edu/ugrad/contact/map.cfm
Good luck!
Hi @peanut56,
When I first answered your question, the site I was referencing to answer your question was for regular undergrad admission, not transfer students. Since then I have discovered that the admissions office does determine space and availability based on major, not college, as I had previously mentioned. However I looked at the majors that are closed or have limited availability for transfer students, and Public Health isn’t on either of those lists, so there is availability in that major. If you want some more information on that here is the link: http://www.scu.edu/ugrad/transfer/
Sorry for the confusion, hope that helps!
Hi, when should regular decision applicants be expecting to be notified of their admission decision?
Hi again! Thanks for answering my last question!
(I have another one) I dropped off my mid-term report with my current university’s admissions office where they send documents off about 2 weeks ago and I sent admissions an email confirming whether they received it or not. They said they haven’t received it and the estimated delivery time is 5 business day I think? Should I send another one or is it possible that they received it but haven’t filed it under my application yet?
Hello Veronica –
Prospective Bronco here. Three questions for you:
I’m a candidate for the Johnson Scholarship and submitted my semi-finalist essay. When are the letters sent out to notify finalists of their status?
Mid-March is such a nebulous time, and I could do with as much stress relief as possible in this turbulent month.
My other questions are about extracurriculars:
Do you know if SCU has a Ballroom Dance team or club, and, if not, how would one go about starting one?
Do you know if SCU has a Mock Trial team?
Thanks!
Hi @123unquiely123,
The notifications were made available on Ecampus yesterday!
Will SCU send us an email regarding the scholarship?
