Ask questions about TCNJ here

I do believe that they are trying to increase their geographic representation and as a result, they offer more generous merit packages to out of state students. More info here : https://admissions.tcnj.edu/resources-for/outofstatescholarship/

I think you can also get an application fee waiver if you are out of state.

I’d say TCNJ is a very solid choice, and worth taking a look at, in or out of state.

@readthetealeaves: Depends. I’d have to speculate because we are in state and TCNJ was her top choice and she applied ED. But if we lived in PA or NY or Delaware, we’d have to consider our in state options there, plus what kind of aid/scholarship we could expect. TCNJ OOS cost is around $42K. If she had to choose between that and, say, SUNY Geneseo at an in-state cost of $25K, we would probably encourage her to go to Geneseo. But, it’s not entirely our decision. If she hated Geneseo for whatever reason, we would dismiss it. Luckily, she felt a great fit at TCNJ.

How are the professors like in TCNJ? Are they engaging and passionate?

How are study abroad options? What percent of juniors go abroad? Do you pay your regular tuition whatever that may be? How is freshman housing doled out? Does one get priority if one enters with heaps of AP credit? Are class sizes really as small as i read them to be?

Study abroad:
Approximately 25-30% of each graduating class at TCNJ participates in an education abroad experience – study abroad, an international internship, Global Student Teaching, or some type of volunteering or service experience overseas. There is a wide variety of options, including shorter programs in the Winter Session, Maymester, and Summer, semester and year-long options, and even programs with a Spring Break travel component.

See this page about tuition:

Freshman housing:
How is my room/roommate assigned?
In the past, all first-year students have lived on the same floor with their First Seminar Program (FSP) classmates. This year, we are excited to welcome one of the largest classes in TCNJ’s history! The large class size, coupled with other considerations, necessitates a change in how we place students into residence halls and FSP sections. This year, some first-year students will be placed on the same floor as their FSP classmates and others will not. To be as fair as possible, we will randomly assign students to one of these two alternatives. Despite this change, we expect that the quality of the First Seminar Program and the residential experience will remain high.

We have 5 buildings that serve as first year student housing – Travers and Wolfe, the largest of these options, ABE (Allen, Brewster, Ely), Norsworthy, and Centennial Halls. Students in Honors, Bonner or Women in Leadership housing are located in Centennial Hall.

When should spring transfer applicants be receiving their decisions?

@monchou My daughter has found most of her professors to be very excited about what they are teaching. She has also found them to be very approachable, welcoming and helpful during office hours. I am impressed with the advising the students get within their major every semester.

Hi, I’m a high school senior and I just recently sent my application in for Mechanical Engineering. How long does it usually take to get an acceptance letter for regular decision and if you happen to know people in the engineering majors what do they say about the program? Do they say it’s hard, easy, challenging, or a little bit of both? Also, which clubs and sports are the most popular on campus?

@Aurora2019
If you look on the TCNJ website it says:
https://admissions.tcnj.edu/resources-for/freshman-applicants/

General Admission
Application Deadline: February 1
Supporting Documents Deadline: March 1
Notification of Decision: No later than April 1**

Engineering at TCNJ is ABET accredited. That means it is as challenging as any other engineering program. I think if it is challenging or not is up to each person.

Okay thank you

Can anyone tell me if TCNJ relies heavily on adjunct professors? My daughter might want to study French, but there is no French major. When I asked about the limited number of majors, we were told that many students design their own, but that they’d recently lost their French adjunct professor, so she shouldn’t come if she wants to study French. My D’s not sure what she wants to study, but I’m wondering how many departments/subjects rely so heavily on adjuncts that one person leaving makes it impossible to study that subject. I’d feel more certain about her attending if she knew she wanted to study Education or Business–not sure how strong the liberal arts departments are. Thoughts?

You could look at the faculty directory for a particular department.
It shows who is full time (professors) and who is part time/adjunct.

For example:

Thanks, @bopper!

Is it possible to major in the Business School and pursue a minor or double major in Spanish, which is the School of Humanities & Social Sciences?

Do you need to take a certain amount of classes in a semester to apply for housing?

@emilynj01 Generally you have to be a full time student (12 credits or more) to have housing at a college. Contact TCNJ to find out details. housing@tcnj.edu

I’m really curious about the Bonner program. Is it based on the application or by need? Our FAFSA does not reflect our true need for financial aid. I really want my son to have a fair chance… and he really wants to go to TCNJ!!

I see that the overall acceptance rate and the GPA / SAT score requirements are available, but wondering if you could share the GPA / SAT requirements for acceptance into CS major at TCNJ? Thanks in advance…

Any 7 year TCNJ BS/MD program students/parents here? How is it at TCNJ?
What did you like the most ?
Can a 1570 in SAT + 35 in ACT get you in ?

I can’t speak to how the program is, but yes, your stats would qualify you for entrance into that program.
