Ask questions about UCSD here!

Hi! I have a similar question to the guy above. I got into UCSD in my second major (Physics with Specialization in Astrophysics) rather than my first (Bioengineering), which is capped. How hard will it be to switch majors and switch from Revelle to the Jacobs School of Engineering?

On the other hand, I also got into UCI in Bioengineering (my first choice) as well as their honors program. Should I try to switch majors in UCSD to Bioengineering or should I stick with UCI instead?

Thanks.

@VostoK Youā€™ll still be in Revelle but your major would be under JSOE.

Bioengineering IIRC gives you two chances and is REALLY impacted compared to Biology. You should probably go to UCI to be honest.

Is Revelle antisocial

Also is there a way to switch colleges before the fall semester starts ?

@ucsdcompsci Just curious what you mean by Sixth Collegeā€™s ā€œdistinct social environment?ā€ My son got into Sixth (his 3rd choice college) and weā€™d like to try to understand the vibe there a bit better.

@ucsdbio2022 the way Revelle is laid out makes it super social. Youā€™ll always run into people heading to Rogerā€™s and the Fleet suites are great for kickbacks. Itā€™s virtually impossible to switch colleges (no one even tries).

@screennname3 Itā€™s one of the most social colleges IMO. Distinct because itā€™s sort of secluded from the rest of campus, but from what Iā€™ve seen from my friends in Sixth, everyone in Sixth knows almost everyone else in Sixth, which is a vibe I donā€™t really get from Warren. I donā€™t know very many people in my own home college :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi I was wondering how hard it would be to go from undeclared to mechanical engineering. I was accepted into Warren college as undeclared.

@aznvietpanda http://maeweb.ucsd.edu/undergrad/ugadmissions

how hard varies from quarter to quarter depending on other applicants. if you think you can get a 3.7+ in MAE screening courses you probably have a good chance.

Iā€™ve heard about the school being ā€œsocially deadā€, and I perceived the school that way when I visited on a day other than Triton Day. Are the people friendly? Do people actually get together at parties, events, etc? Are people really there JUST to study? Iā€™m debating between UCSD and Cal Poly SLO, and this was a major concern for me.

@ldr1975 Use the search function on the thread, Iā€™ve answered this a few times

Hi, Iā€™m thinking of transferring colleges. I read online that you have to show them you can graduate 2 quarters earlier at your new college, but I donā€™t understand what this means? Does it mean they want you to graduate earlier than 4 years, and also why would they want you to be able to graduate earlier to transfer?

@writerscookie our school year is split into quarters. they want you to be able to graduate earlier if your college choice was detrimental and slows you down. they donā€™t want people graduating a year or two late.

itā€™s really hard to get a college change though.

@ucsdcompsci oh okay, thank you for the info!

If Iā€™ve just been accepted as a freshman for fall 2018 do I need an appointment for summer sessions? I know enrollment for courses starts April 23rd but Iā€™m still a little unsure about if I can do the sessions. Any advice would be great ! Thanks

One more question for you. I am looking at two courses in summer session 2. They have different hours but the finals are held on the same day at the same time.
Is there any way to get past this?
Can I take the test earlier?

@ethanvi You must contact the professors who teach the course and ask for accommodations. They are not required to fulfill them though.

Hey should I go to University of San Diego or the University of Colorado in Boulder?

Hi there, can someone comment on Freshman housing? 6th College resident hall or on campus apartment with meal plan? Is the on campus apartment too far to walk to classes? Thank you!

@srg1915 This isnā€™t specific enough. Whatā€™s your situation/major/etc? What do you want out of college? Also this isnā€™t the thread for USD this is for UCSD lol

@wang33 APARTMENT! Entirely possible for a freshman to get an apartment at sixth, and they are a lot nicer than the dorms. Plus sixth food sucks so cooking will be a plus. Apartments i think are actually slightly closer than the res halls.
