Ask Questions about Villanova Here!

Do you know if Villanova accepts dual enrollment credits from your personal experience. I’m referring to college classes taken within a high school that we can pay for through the community college or state college. Thank you.

I read that Villanova requires engineering students have a laptop that runs Windows, as opposed to Mac OS. Is that true? If so, my son will have to ditch his Mac.

@psssthoy I can’t answer your question about Villanova, but there are several different ways to run Windows on a Mac.

My son will be coming from the Los Angeles area. What do students do about storing their stuff over the summer? Is there on-campus storage?

@evergreen5 Thanks. I will ask my son to check with school whether this is doable. I would rather not have to buy a new laptop.

@parksgary207 I’ve never personally taken either train, but here is what some of my friends have said: the high speed line is on South Campus, and that is less expensive than the other line. However, you need to switch trains to get to center-city Philadelphia, whereas the one on West Campus takes you straight in, but the South Campus train is less preferable for night time travels.

@nhsstudent123 I’m not sure…I know Villanova accepts many AP and IB credits, but I’m not sure about dual enrollment credits. Try contacting the Office of Admissions (610.519.4000). Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful for your question, I just don’t want to give you false information!

@psssthoy I am not in engineering, but one of my friends is. She said that it depends on your specific major in engineering. You do need Windows, but she said they may allow you to download the Windows software on your Mac just like @evergreen5 said. However, if your son is in computer engineering, it is probably better to just get a laptop that is meant to be used with Windows.
I also know that some students who already own a Mac from high school will keep that to use for other classes, but will also purchase a Windows computer for work in business classes.
Like you said earlier, I would definitely have your son call a department from Villanova, or check with his advisor when he receives his/her contact information.

For storing stuff over the summer, there is storage offered. It is not on-campus, but the company provides boxes and will pick them up when you leave/deliver them when the next school year begins.

How was freshman orientation? What goes on during those days?

@novanationer12 Thank you for being a resource.

@ljosberg freshman orientation was pretty fun! the first day was Parent’s Day, and you just go around campus to presentations with your family before meeting your orientation counselor and group for the first time. from then on you are with your group all day for the next three days. it’s pretty tiring since they have you doing activities and attending presentations with your group all day for those three days from around 8 or 9 AM to 9 or 10 PM, and sometimes you have to walk to and from South and Main a few times. however, it is pretty fun. you get to know everyone in your group and your counselor, you learn Villanova games and chants, and you get to meet so many different people. they also give you a lot of useful information and you get to learn your way around campus a bit before classes start! there is also a social gathering each night where you can meet other students and people that live in your dorm! we had a luau with music and food where we were able to meet people, and a water ice social with free italian ices and games; they gave you glow stick necklaces based on your dorm so that you can meet others in your dorm!

@psssthoy not a problem! best of luck to your son, I hope he loves being a Wildcat in the Nova Nation!

thank you!!!

@novanationer12 I would assume most parents leave after the “Parent’s Day?” We are coming from Texas. So, we are trying to get a jump on travel plans. Is Parent’s Day after the move-in day? Thanks for your help…

@Domer97 Move-in day this year is August 22. Opening Day, which includes the parent info sessions and Opening Mass, is August 23. https://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/studentlife/orientation/schedule.html We’re from California and have already started pricing airfare. I booked a nearby hotel just to make sure we can lock in the lower rate.

@parksgary207 no problem!! :slight_smile:

@Domer97 yes, parents leave after Parent’s Day.
like @psssthoy mentioned, move-in day is August 22nd, opening day/Parent’s Day is August 23rd, and then August 24th-26th is freshman orientation for the students only, as well as upperclassmen move-in, before classes start on August 27th.

At some point can we get to the important stuff like restaurant recommendations? :)>-

@psssthoy good point! haha :))
Gullifty’s is really good. It’s mostly American food but they have a really wide range of choices, and if it’s warm enough outside you could probably walk to it from campus.
Pietro’s has super delicious Italian food, and is right next to Honeygrow, which is known for its stir-fry and juices!
First Watch is right down the road in the shopping plaza with Starbucks, and is a really awesome place for brunch. It’s only open until 2:30 everyday and can get pretty busy, but you can get in line on the app before you get there for a shorter wait!

@psssthoy I thought of a few more places!
Little Basil has super good Chinese food. They give you a very large portion and it is pretty inexpensive. However, it is take-out only as there is no place to sit, but it makes for a really good late night meal or if you just want to stay in and not have food from the dining hall!
Campus Corner is located right on the edge of campus. The food is decent, its mainly good if you want chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, food like that.
Nova Grill has pretty tasty Greek food and other items from the grill like burgers and grilled chicken, as well as salads!

@novanationer12 Now you’re speaking my language!

I am an international student for Nova class 2022 and planning to apply the honors program.

I am not pretty sure whether it will be a best fit for me to join in that program. I have been admitted by the VSB, so will it be better for me to stay in VSB and meet people with similar majors? I am also concerning that because I am an international student, will it be hard for me to get into the honors program?

My SAT score is 1490 and I am about to take 5 AP this year. Is there a chance for me?

Could you tell me something you know about the honors program: Dorm life? Do people party a lot? If you could, please give me some advice!

Thanks a lot!
