Did anyone else not get assigned a specific dorm for their housing? I'm really not sure whether to be bummed or excited about living with a group (3-5 people?) rather than a roommate for my first few weeks at IU. Does anyone know where they usually assign people after the 2-3 weeks? I'd like to stay in the NW Neighborhood if possible.

Hey!
I’m going in to my sophomore year at IU, and they did this last year. Its nice to live in a lounge because of the increased space you have, but it also means that you’ll get relocated, and have to do the whole move-in-meet-and-greet over again.

They wait for kids to
A) Drop out
B) Never show up
C) Back out last minute

And then figure out how many rooms they have left where, and relocate from there. I think that they try to keep most kids in the dorm that they’re in to the extent that they can? No promises, obviously, but if you make your preference known to your RA, theres a better chance that you’ll get what you want.

I know that the situation sucks, but it’ll be fun to get to know a few extra people in the first couple of weeks!

Awesome thanks for that. Hopefully everything works out in the end. The only thing I’m sorta worried about is people in my floor-to-be forming “clicks” before I even show up. I just don’t want to be at a disadvantage, you know? Anyway, if anyone else has gone through the process/experience and would like to share that would be great. I need some reassuring.

My friend moved from Briscoe to Forest this past year (opposite side of campus, haha) and he did totally fine adjusting to the social scene. Just keep an open mind and introduce yourself to your neighbors and I think that you’ll be fine. :] I also moved during my second semester, but it was easier for me to get used to people because I already knew a couple of the girls on the floor. Yes, the cliques were already formed, but I just acted normally with everyone and they accepted me nicely. ^^
