Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago - Mrs Obama

No he didn’t. There are no athletic scholarships at Ivy league schools.

While true, it’s a common error (not that it makes it correct). But I think the point is that Craig Robinson attended (and graduated from) Princeton.

As he was eligible for full financial aid, athletic scholarship was a moot point.

Their father had multiple scelerosis and worked as a pump operator at Chicago water department and mother was stay at home mom until Mrs. Obama left for college.

Obviously, both siblings qualified for need based full rides at Princeton. They were talented, minority and low income kids with a single income family and a disabled father. Those things may have helped stand out in admissions.

Such a remarkable family, both kids did extremely well. He is a VP for NY Nicks now and she is a popular First Lady.

Talk about damning with faint praise. Have you seen the Knicks play recently? =))

Well, if we are being critical then she didn’t last long or do wonders as a lawyer.

This is a silly thread.

That last point is not fair criticism. Lots of people go to law school and wind up pursuing careers outside of law, sometimes with great success. I have two friends from law school or clerking that have been CEOs of substantial companies, one who was president of a major research university, and another who is a successful novelist.

My spouse graduated from law school and practiced law with a poverty law program for six years, which included almost two full years of maternity leave and a year of half-time work. She was offered a non-legal public sector job, which she took, and went on to a really distinguished career in a nonlegal field.

No one sniffs at any of them about how they were busts as lawyers. Michelle Obama has had a different sort of career, but she has done a pretty good job of it.

@CupCakeMuffins - highly doubt it violates the TOS. But if I were an Obama reading this thread I’d be like “why can’t I just eat my waffle?”

Do all public servants and their families have to deal with public scrutiny AFTER leaving office? Hardly encouraging for those who truly wish to serve this country.

@JHS Yup.Too many students don’t use their degrees, don’t work in their intended field due to change of interest or circumstances. However, ones getting picked for free rides from Princeton and Harvard Law School are more likely to be expected to be dedicated to their intended fields. Someone as or more qualified would’ve benefited from that opportunity and used it to practice law. No?

@JBStillFlying She didn’t work in public service. She worked in private sector. She was married to someone who did public service.

I like that girl and think she has come far but that doesn’t mean we can question the hype.

However, I agree that discussion doesn’t belong in this thread.

@CupCakeMuffins - read my post again: "all public servants and their families . . . "

Stuff like where the children should go to college or what “intended field” a spouse “is expected” to follow because of her SES and level of financial assistance . . . Wowza.

Glad you agree on the direction the discussion has taken.

Huh?

@CupCakeMuffins : “I like that girl and think she has come far but that doesn’t mean we can question the hype.”

What girl, please?

@Waiting2exhale

She is much younger than me. I call 40 year olds kids, just my way of speaking, not disrespect to another human being.

Michelle Obama is almost 55.
