Hey everyone,

I'm curious to know what sorts of things are recommended for a student who would be interested in applying to Yale next year with this major. A couple questions.
1. What sort of extracurriculars are recommended?
2. Outside of AP Physics classes and high-level math classes, what classes would you recommend taking?
3. Is double majoring even somewhat feasible? I'm also interested in econ/compsci (obviously only one of those for the second major! :) )

Thanks in advance!

Any excurrs that would have to do with your major… if you can get an internship/some lab experience at an astrophysics research facility or something of that sort, that would be great. Of course, don’t do an excurr just to get into Yale… do it because you actually want to.

Those should be enough, but if you can get an astronomy class (if your school even has that) that would be great, too.

It’s feasible, but, for the sake of sanity, not recommended. If you’re up to it, go for it.

OP, I have no admissions secrets, but I can tell you that skill in using the relevant computer software is essential for astrophysics research. My son did summer research for his advisor, the current president of the American Astronomical Society (who is the nicest - and busiest - advisor he could have lucked into!) and it was 10% observation and 90% percent computer analysis, at least.
