Hi everyone!
I’m an LA native who was accepted to ASU’s honor college (Barrett). I’m a little worried that a degree from ASU won’t hold so much weight when I come back home.
Therefore I was thinking of going to Santa Monica College and transferring to UCLA (in one year because I already have 27 units from AP/concurrent enrollment). But some of the honors classes that I need to transfer are hard to get I hear.
I was thinking of doing Psychology, Sociology, or History because I can transfer in one year with them. I am leaning more towards Psych because it is the most interesting to me and I feel as if it will translate the best to vet school later. But I also hear it is very hard to transfer into.
What do you think about this? Should I just go to ASU? Have any of you been in a similar situation?
Personally I would just go to ASU. It’s a great school in a lovely location, and Barrett is fantastic. I would not worry about ASU not being highly ranked. It is definitely “good enough” to be taken seriously, particularly if you are coming from Barrett. Good luck, whatever you decide!
Thank you @chris17mom ! I’m still really nervous X_X
@honestlyfreaked I don’t blame you, this is a big decision! Also, I forgot to mention ASU (Barrett) is a top producer of Fulbright scholars. I really don’t think you have anything to worry about with regard to ASU not being a good enough school. Actually ASU Barrett was high on my son’s list…It was not his first choice, but not because ASU isn’t great (in fact, we were very impressed with ASU Barrett); it was simply because ASU is close to home for us (we live in AZ) and he really wanted to go to school out of state. My overall impression of ASU is that yes it is a huge public school, but it is also a school that is doing a very good job of providing a great education to kids who apply themselves, particularly in the Barrett Honors College. Additionally, Barrett had the nicest dorms and cafeteria of any of the schools we toured. As a Barrett student, you are basically treated like a VIP, which I think is a great strategy to attract smart kids, and another example of what ASU is doing right!
Best of luck whatever you decide!
