I'd like some advice. I live in Miami, FL, and don't really care all that much whether I go to the BEST college in the world. I'm not bothering to aim for the Ivies, but I do NOT want to go to the CC here, or FIU (Florida International University). I just really want to get out of Miami. I'd prefer a Tier 1 school if possible, but it doesn't have to be so prestigious or anything. Nothing with 100% acceptance though, if you know what I mean.

I go to a well-regarded arts school, and have a 4.0 UW GPA, 4.9 W. SAT R: 700, W: 690, M: 630. This is the problem: I have a very poor math and science record. They're all "A"s, but I think it looks pretty dopey. I have Earth Science Regulars, Biology Regulars, Chemistry Regulars, and finally this year, Physics Honors. My math record kind of sucks too: Algebra I Regulars, Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, and that's it. I stopped. I didn't take a math past Algebra II. I'm afraid my senior courseload looks pretty bad too:

AP English Lit
Physics Honors
Creative Writing 3 (!) Honoros
America Gov/Econ Honors
(we only take four classes senior year).

I don't know what I want to do. I don't want to be a music major (I do music at my school), and I don't want to be a math/science major. I'm really freaked out. Am I doomed to CC or FIU because my math/science record sucks? I'm pretty much the only 12th grader who's stopped at Alg II. I just really, really hate math. Where can I go in this position that is not CC or FIU?

Btw, I sent my transcripts out, so it'd be a pain to switch. But Creative Writing looks pretty bad, doesn't it? My essay's not that great either. What should I do??????

Dude don't freak out, you're fine. I took one trimester of plain old stats my senior year. Basically after algebra 2 junior year, I was like I hate math and I'm done. You have a better GPA and SAT scores than me and I got into USC which is ranked like #27. It was my EC's more than anything, and I think God wanted me there, but that's a different story lol. I know if you apply to the type of schools your talking about you got a good chance of gettting in. Write a good essay, get good recs, and hopefully you have solid EC's and your fine dude. Seriously. I was like you a year ago. Didn't want to do some community college crap, didn't want to stay in the area and go to the state school so I aimed high and struck gold my friend in California.

Ughhhh, I don't know. We don't do semesters/trimisters at my school: it's one class for the whole year. So now I'm stuck with that bs filler class. I'm really afraid that having those three Creative Writings will hurt me. And now they'll expect some KILLER essay that they wouldn't have otherwise.

You are most definitely NOT doomed to CC, and you could probably get into most of the tier 1 schools. Your Math/Science record is still average, not fantastic, but far, far above CC standards. Do some searching, there are tons of schools you could get into.

Just did a college search with your specifications. These are only a few of the results (you got 56)
