Athletics and Admision at Wash U

How much does wash u really look at being a recruited athlete as compared to most school? I know other schools i'm considering such as MIT don't give it very much weight.

Not much. If the athlete is really in demand, the coach can ask Admissions how he/she looks, but there’s no likely letter and no guarantees. In fact, coaches have lost their best prospects at times because they were not admitted. D-III is all over the map with how they deal with athletes, even within the same conference. In the UAA, which Wash U is in, some schools can get less-qualified kids in. At Wash U, no such luck. Being a recruited athlete at Wash U probably helps a qualified applicant beat out a similarly-qualified applicant, but that’s about it.

As devilbear said, if you’ve got the stats/are qualified, it can definitely help you stand out. But if you aren’t up to par with the rest of the applicants, it won’t do anything for you.

Just know that any edge to stand out in the giant sea of applicants is a good thing.

being able to spell “admission” might help
