Athletics aside, is Wash U just as good as Duke?

Are both schools on the same level academically? I know Wash U has a better medical school, but I’m wondering about Arts & Sciences and Engineering…

<p>i would recommend DUKE. the ONLY reason is that Washington University in S.L. is........well..... they advertized a lot in the recent years, i dont really think it's THAT good. they got many people to apply to lower their acceptance rate, so they're ranked high now. Duke's always been a well-known school</p>

<p>They are not on the same level academically, and Duke's medical is top-5 too. However, Duke's law and business schools are top-10--Wash U's are barely top-40. Duke's engineering is substantially better than Wash U's and the Arts & Sciences at Duke are much better respected. Admission to Duke is much harder than admission to Wash U, unless you're an extremely qualified candidate, whom Wash U likes to wait-list because they have a huge inferiority complex. Also, Duke does like 30X better in terms of graduate school placement. Wash U is abysmal at getting kids into law school, or into Wall Street for that matter.</p>

<p>duke is above wustl academically. i'm not trying to deny the fact that wustl is good, but they can't match duke. in that one wall street journal table about the % of kids who go to top 5 law / med / business schools, duke was like 6 or somethign, washu barely made the top 50.</p>

<p>The only reasons they are spoken of in the same sentance are:</p>

<p>A) They advertise, advertise, manipulate yield and other stats, and advertise.</p>

<p>B) USNaWR needs its occassional "shooting star" to sell magazines. Schools prestige and academics don't change year to year, but by putting schools way higher than where they belong (Penn, WashU, etc) they sell more books, magazines, and subscriptions than they would if they left things unchanged for years at a time.</p>

<p>wustl is only ranked high because of other factors. when looked at academics alone, wustl isnt as good and cant compare to duke</p>

<p>Duke is an ivy league wanna be? Why? They already nearly dominate the ACC, it would just be sick in the Ivy League. Ok, so Maryland is a Duke-killer and UNC is national champs in bball, but besides that...</p>

<p>Anyways, Duke's way better, WUSTL just sends lots of stuff to everyone who takes the PSAT's.</p>

<p>some CORRECT INFO: duke doesnt have a undergrad biz program, washu's undergrad biz program is top 20. I HATE WASHU BTW. go to duke</p>
