Can anyone please tell me what kind of social life students at Cornell have? I know some current students who all seem pretty miserable with it.

cornell is so big, u’ll find every kind of people here. it depends on you
if you narrow it down by major, personality and more info, then maybe people can help

“Work Hard, Play Hard” is pretty much the simplest way to describe it. I’d say most of the people here work hard Sun-Thursday and then cut lose and have fun and go out Thurs, Fri, Sat. Some people also just study 24/7 and others party 24/7, but most people have a solid balance.

work hard, play hard is a must if you want to enjoy cornell…

if you lose balance then you’ll understand the source of your misery

well if you want to describe it like that, most people play hard til 3-4 days before prelim week lol. after it ends, play hard til before the next one

LOL itachi XD

true dat

Is it a really competitive atmosphere? I understand that everyone there is very smart and very motivated but I just want to know if the atmosphere is cut throat or if everyone is supportive of each other.

The only real competition is with yourself.

From what I’ve experienced, everyone is extremely supportive of one another. yes there may be that kid in honors chem who is gunning for everyone and trying to claw his way to an A+, but those are rare. The rest will be just fine with teamwork, and will recognize the rewards of being supportive of one another.

People work together in study groups all the time, especially engineers. I would not call the atmosphere cut-throat. It is competitive, however. Pretty much everyone works hard, so in some classes you’re going to have to try extra hard just to keep up.

There seems to be a lot of “cut-throat myths” floating around for a lot of top schools. For instance, I stayed overnight at Hopkins a few years ago, and the atmosphere was not cut-throat at all. You could still see people studying together.
