Atten PNW parents

I think that a kid who enjoys going to mass on a regular schedule might feel a bit out of water at L&C.
Linfield is a gem - our out of state D didn't apply for 2 reasons: too few out of area kids (worried about lonely long weekends) and all the relations thought it was a good idea (who wants to go where Grandma suggests!). Wonderful merit aid. Friendliest kids she met of all the campuses we visited. Great dorms and new on-campus apartments.

I hate to be the spelling police but:
Lewis and Clark (Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon USA)
Museum of Glass, Tacoma, WA (Contemporary art and live glass-blowing | Museum of Glass | Tacoma, Washington) where Dale Chihuly glass (and other's) is displayed
University of Puget Sound (University of Puget Sound :: Home) also in Tacoma

Dragonmom I hope they love Linfield. You hit the nail on the head about L&C not being a fit for her. I know it's a great school and we have sent some good students there from our hs but it is ranked #1 on PR's list of schools where "Students Ignore God on a Regular Basis." I do appreciate all of the recommendations though. :)

it's about 100 miles to Seattle or Portland. Closer to Olympia, but Olympia is still a good ways away, and Olympia isn't really a student town the same way Portland or Seattle are."

It's 58 miles to Seattle. Four miles to downtown Olympia. (My office is just across the road.) In regards to a "student town", Time Magazine called Olympia (because of its arts and music scene) "the most happening town in America."

For what it's worth, the opera company I'm part of sometimes teams up with the St. Martin's student chorus (we did a Puccini mass last month). Student-directed plays are presented in our of our four theaters downtown.

Mini, thanks for the correction. I always think of St. Martins as halfway to Portland, but it isn't really.

I stand by my characterization of Olympia, however. It's based on my kids' opinions... "I would never live in Olympia but I love Portland and Seattle."

mini I noticed that the campus appears to have no health center so I have two questions:

Where would a kid go for urgent care?

Where would a kid who was sick during normal office hours go?

also is the Hamms brewery still up and running? I remember the old Hamms adds from when I was a little kid and the tag line "Olympia Brewing Company, Tumwater Washington." sigh...my mind is full of useless pop culture triva from my youth :)

dmd: you do canine agility?? I love that sport, so do both my girls. We have never trained a dog for it but have been to some live expositions and have watched it on Animal Planet. I have alsways thought that I might pick it up when my kids are no longer living at home. Flyball is another favorite.

so sorry about the spelling -was in a hurry and did not check the spelling. Just tried to be helpful

I have no idea on health services for St. Martins. I am sure they have some arrangement. The major hospital is about 2 miles away and there many urgent care offices in the area as well many docs. I can't imagine that they don't have some kind of health services but I am sure the admissions office would give you the answer.

a hospital 2 miles away sounds reasonable thanks mini.

Spent Sunday there myself!

I talked to a mom on Saturday whose son has been applying to only Christian schools. She told me he is going to Pacific Lutheran and got a good merit aid package. I don't know anything about the school, but it may be worth checking out.

Thanks 2blue...mini I hope it wasn't serious!
