Ok simply put… I’ve applied and have been accepted to 4/5 colleges (last one I’ve yet to receive so far).
I’m from New York & applied to Cortland, UDel, SHU, UMD & Iowa (UMD I haven’t heard from & have no interest in anyway)
Now, I’m torn between Cortland & UDel- I want to go to Cortland but my parents think I’m too smart & want me to go to UDel.
If I were to really choose, however, I’d pick Iowa- which as you can tell from where I live- is 2 plane rides (or a 15 hour drive) away. I’ll have no chance visiting the school by May 1 b/c of lack of motivation by my parents and the law that as a 17 y/o I can’t check into a hotel room alone.
If there’s somehow you can help me convince my parents that I can go there? Their arguments (which I completely respect & understand) are the fact that I am far from them & that when I do come home during breaks, snow can be an issue (since it snows both in IA & NY)
I’ve told them the vibe there seems so amazing, I root for the Hawkeyes (which is why I applied :)) and it’ll help me open up & start over. Also, it has what I want (PT/physiology) and many other options in case I decide to switch.
I know out of state tuition’s sorta expensive, but I did receive scholarships ($13,000 per year) and I plan on doing either a work-study or just find a part-time job while I study there so I can pay for bus rides or plane tickets when I come home.
Is this way out of proportion? Maybe I need another adult perspective even though I totally understand their POV. Can I go to a school I didn’t visit? (I have looked at pictures an online tours, etc. so I know what the campus looks like and I love it) Can I go to a school that far, even if I want to work for travel arrangements?
Please help me! I appreciate anything!
