I just stumbled upon this thread while doing some college research and felt compelled to post. I also attended Bard and for the most part believe that everything bananapplecat has said in this thread is accurate. If anyone has any specific questions about Bard I would be happy to try to answer them. I do not have any animosity towards Bard, however I would like to help potential students make a clear and informed decision. I would also like to make people aware of some things about Bard that I wish I would have known before attending.

Did you check out this hour long video of Bard students answering questions? <a href=“Bard College Student Webcast- Q & A Session - YouTube”>Bard College Student Webcast- Q & A Session - YouTube; I would be surprised if something on the subject of diversity didn’t come up in it. (Disclaimer - I did not watch the whole thing!)
I would imagine it would be like anywhere else - some people are going to feel more comfortable staying in a group with likeminded people - and others would prefer to branch out. I know that some of the international students for whom English is a second language do tend in the beginning to hang out with others who speak their native language.

@bananapplecat I am currently a First Year at Bard and considering leaving. My reasons are exactly the reasons you described. Despite making many friends and having a decent social life, I feel isolated and lonely. I was hoping that maybe you could speak to me about life after you left. Do you regret it? Where did you go after Bard? I was accepted to Northeastern on Tuesday and am considering going. It’s hard to make the decision, though. As First Years, we spend so much time on campus, from August 8-May 23 with only 3.5 weeks away (including fall and winter break), you’re forced to make your life here, and although I’m unhappy, I’m afraid to leave.
