Hello. I was wondering if anyone had advice about attending a college close to home vs. going farther away. I live in a suburb about 30 minutes away from a top tier public university. I love everything about the school: the campus, the attitude, and just the overall atmosphere. The only thing is I also want to "get out" and have a new experience by possibly going farther away. If I were to attend the close university, I would still live in the dorms. Does anyone have any opinions about whether to stay close to home or go farther away?

I think the only real distinction is if you were to be a commuter vs. living in the dorm. Since that’s not the case, don’t worry about it. Pick the school you’d be happier at, which could be the closer one.

and travel. broadly. look for internships away from the campus region. go overseas for one or two semesters. get in with the kids from other cultures and learn their dress, cooking, and ways. take courses outside your field. seek out unusual professors. go home with friends for holidays.

Go to the closer (and presumably less expensive) school. Don’t go home every weekend.
