Attention paid to applications

Hi guys I was wondering how closely your application is viewed even after HYPSM realizes your transcript/GPA is slightly weaker than competitive canidates. Would they still look at your extracurriculars and awards? Or are you automatically rejected? BTW the low GPA I am referring to is a 3.6

@4EverAnnoymous: Welcome to College Confidential.

When you post a thread on CC, to receive the best advice possible, you need to tell your complete and entire story. You’ve now posted 3 different versions of your story. Once here on the MIT forum, once on the Yale Forum (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/1791376-dealbreakers-in-admissions.html#latest), and once on Princeton’s forum (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1791382-is-a-c-going-to-kill-my-chances.html#latest).

I think I’m beginning to piece together your story, which is: you are a freshman who has a learning disability, You got a ‘C’ in your favorite subject, received treatment for your learning disability and are now doing better. Is that correct? You may also have a course load that is consider “light.” And your current GPA from your freshman year is 3.6. Did I get everything correct?

Okay, here’s the deal: Even with a learning disability, your GPA is too low for HYPSM. However, your GPA is based upon just your freshman year – so the good news is that you have two more years to ramp up the course rigor and the grades. If you can increase your GPA over the next two years to a 3.8, Admissions will see an upward trend – and that will help you. Coupled with an explanation regarding your learning disability from your guidance counselor on the SSR, you will be a competitive applicant, especially if you are winning awards. So, here’s what you need to do: Apply sideways: http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/applying_sideways
