The hardest for me was not controlling what happened. They pretty much tell you when to eat, sleep, excercise, even when oyu can use the restroom! (although you can ask). Not being "good enough" plays a factor in that too, but u just ahve to accept it

Yeah, if you are constantly "failures" in everything, morale goes way down in a hurry. Like I said before, I had a night and day difference in 2nd BCT. My entire flight was confused and frustrated for about a week. (Seems like forever in beast)

i'm interested to see if the 2011ers can tell time by weather also... our BCT it rained almost every day around 3

sunny skies in the morning, clouding over around 1-2, rain at 3, clearing by 4...

I would base my observations on how long it was until lunch by the length and direction of the shadows.

living meal to meal helps a lot during BCT... its the only time you can sit down

I know that the first year is very time constricting, but as a 4-dig, do you ever have the opportunity to go to the mountains and board? If you do, is it like once the whole year or more often?
Also, what is the farthest distance run that you have to do in basic?

thanks

I usually go skiing every weekend here. I either rent a car and hotel with friends, or go with the ski club. You will have many opportunities to if you keep off probation.

Longest run for me in BCT was probably 4 miles or so.

Skiing is pretty much as often as you can afford, with the exception of some silver weekends, and of course probations, restrictions, and confinements.

for running, i think the end of basic we had about a 5 mile run. i would definetely recommend running at least 2 miles a couple times a week. the altitude can hit you when you run. after running a pace atleast 2 miles in ohio, i was able to run the same pace here for the AFT (1.5 mile) and was exhausted

For about $150 bucks you can get a season pass at Keystone and it works, I believe for copper mountain as well . This is a GREAT gift for parents/others looking to give something to their cadet. Since most things you can't have, this is a nice gift and it pays for itself in a few visits. And yes, you will have time on weekends for this activity. To be in Colorado Springs and NOT go skiing is a crime -- at least to us Easterners! ;)

I live in the Springs and am a class of 2011 hopeful. I go skiing nearly every weekend and plan on doing it af often as possible if I get an appointment. Thankfully I have a lot of friends in town that own condos in Keystone/Vail/Breck that it is real easy to get a whole weekend ot of a trip. Also, lots of sponsor families have condos that im sure are used by cadets a lot. The season pass is called the Liberty Pass and is around 150 bucks. This is a military discount price; the normal price is 300-400 bucks. Sorry for the rant, just got a little excitied about all the snow the mountains have been getting lately.. :)

Yup, my sponsors have a condo on the slopes in keystone. I get my own queen size bed, good food, and a blast with them. Great way to get out for the weekend!

How much snow is at the Academy right now?

almost none, except for some piles that were plowed up a few weeks ago

Snow melts really fast around here...and then it snows again.

Dang someone got lucky...cough.

Yeah, no kidding. :)

Luke303-- you said "access to condos". Believe you will be a VERY popular cadet!

AFDAD, I'll just say yes, people will ask to go with once they find out. ;)

What happens if you accidentally sleep in and miss a formation or a class?
And also, whats the deal if you are sick with like the flu?

The Liberty Pass works at Keystone and A-Basin only, which is still a great deal. And if you don't own skis, a season rental from the store at USAFA is $100.

If you are sick, you can attend sick call in the morning, and they decide if you get bed rest or not.

As four digs, you can't sleep in because you call minutes 30 min before breakfast (mandatory). if you miss your alarm, you'll get a basic style wake up, and maybe extra physical stuff or even some other disciplinary action depending on how many times you've done so. And in the day you can't nap, so you can't sleep through a class.

IF you miss a formation (like noon meal) or class, you will most likely get a Form 10 with at LEAST 5 demerits and 5 confinements. Probably more. Also, if you miss a quiz, or a GR, something of that nature, there's a good chance they will give you a 0, or some penalty on it. (Happened to my room mate)
