ATTN Poli Sci Majors: What is your concentration?

Sweet! I was thinking of minoring in Philosophy (instead of majoring because I honestly think double majoring has no impact on your application in the long-run) and doing some Philosophy courses this summer to fulfill some of the reqs.

Which brings up a question I had in mind. Can you start minoring in a specific subject once you get to a 4-year or do you need to have started while you were at a CC or another university?

EDIT: I just looked on www.assist.org and realized that I needed 3 courses to be considered as a Pre-Philosophy major.

PHIL 2: Ethics
PHIL 9: Symbolic Logic
PHIL 7: Intro to Logic

I think, depending on the school, Majoring has a lot more impact than a minor, because it shows much more devotion and depth to the topic... a Minor is maybe 2-3 intro courses and 1-2 intermediate course(s).

I don't see why you couldn't do a minor in 2 years, unless you are overburdened with required courses. Double majoring after transfering might be more difficult, though.

Sorry, I need to clarify something. What I meant to say was that majoring in 2 subjects in the same discipline (i.e. majoring in philosophy and political science which are both social sciences) is pointless. However, double majoring in EE and Biology would be quite impressive.

I was thinking of taking the low req courses for Philosophy during the summer, but I'll be in Japan all of July so I don't think that would be possible. Depending on your concentration, I think you need to take about 12 upper-division courses to get your B.A. So, on top of that I need to take around 4-5 courses if I intend to minor in Philosophy so 17 courses in 2 years including summers. I think that might be possible.

bump, bump, bump it up!!!

Yes, bump this thread up. Where do you want to go, Nikkei?
