I’ve been looking at colleges that will be able to satisfy my desire to dual major in computer science and some form of audio technology (it comes in various guises, heheh…I’ve seen sound engineering, recording arts, recording industry, music technology…they’re all slightly different, but by and large they’re the same, based on course descriptions I’ve read).
Anyway, I noticed that AU has programs in Audio Technology and Audio Production and I can’t seem to find a whole lot of info on them…anybody know whether they’re well reputed? Networking/internships? Job placement rate? Etc. Any and all info you might have would be helpful. I’m considering Michigan, Indiana University, University of Miami, and Butler among others and similarly to Butler AU could be a safety for me because (unless I am mistaken) it does not have the epic portfolio requirements for admission that the other schools do. And frankly it seems to be better than Butler academically.

So yeah, any info you all might have would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, I visited AU this past February during one of their visit days, as I am looking to do the same thing. I can’t remember the figures they said, but based on location, I would guess their internship opportunities aren’t as great as those in schools in NYC, Nashville, and LA areas. If you are looking for schools that don’t require an audition or portfolio, University of New Haven doesn’t require either of those.

There is another thread on CC that has a whole list of Recording Technology/Sound Engineering/whatever you call it.

American University has a blossoming Audio Technology/Production department. With brand new facilities including a custom Wunder Bar and and API 1608, the audio community is constantly handing successful and knowledgeable graduates to the real world. Examples of common courses that are taken by undergraduates are Music Business, Acoustics, Mixing & Mastering, and Live Sound. Internships are plentiful in the DC area, and there are many summer jobs that are offered across the country.
