Auburn vs. UAB dilemma

I’m OOS from Georgia. I really loved auburn when I visited, but unless I get a large amount of scholarships I will probably go to UGA.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC App

I also got an interview for EMSAP and Elite Semifinalist at Auburn. Does anyone know how the interview for EMSAP is? What types of questions do they ask, etc?

I searched through old threads and saw something about the EMSAP interview being 3 25 minute sections. But I don’t know anything for sure. I think we are supposed to get another email soon though with details.

Ah I hope it’s not too intense.

Hopefully not. I’ve never interviewed for anything in my life so I have no idea what to expect, lol.

I had an MIT and Harvard interview so far and they weren’t bad at all, but I have a feeling this one is going to be difficult. It’s mostly how the interviews go that would reject 20/29 kids right?

I believe so… I think only 19 get rejected though! Not much better, but still. Haha.

If it turns out that there’s a $6k/year differential or thereabouts, your ultimate dream school should still be an option on the table IMHO. Are your parents going to be able to help you at all, or will you have to earn/borrow yourself to pay for everything not covered by the scholarship?

Keep your fingers crossed for more money from Auburn and let us know how it turns out.

My parents will definitely be able to help me, just not sure on the amount. I have applied for other small outside scholarships as well, because I reallyyy want to go to Auburn, lol.

Just found out that I wasn’t picked as a finalist for the additional scholarships from Auburn. I wasn’t really expecting it anyways. I leave for UAB tomorrow for my interviews, so we will see how things go from there.

Thanks for the update. Good luck and keep us posted!

You should still contact Auburn and tell them what you’re getting from UAB. Since you do have strong stats, AU may offer you more if they think you’re considering UAB.

Just thought I’d update everyone. I didn’t get into the UAB EMSAP program, but it was a long shot anyways so I’m not exactly heartbroken. I have applied to the same type of program as EMSAP at FSU, and will find out in April if I get an interview or not. So now my decision has pretty much become Auburn vs. FSU. With Bright Futures and merit scholarship from FSU, I could pretty much go there for free. But I’m not really and city girl and am still in love with Auburn. We go up to Auburn on Feb 20 for Presidential Scholars Day and are planning to ask about possibly any other scholarships they may have. I did get a departmental scholarship from Auburn as well I just found out. So I’m still up in the air on everything and can’t wait for all the decision making to be done!

Pony…

When you go to Auburn, go there with your other schools’ offers and ask to meet with the heads of scholarships and admissions. Those are the people who can increase your merit to be the same or similar as other schools’ offers.

Thanks to your advice that is something we are definitely planning on doing. I head never even thought of doing that until you mentioned it a few weeks ago. My parents think it is a great idea as well, I mean the worst they can do is say no, right?

sorry you didnt get into emsap ponygirl… but to even get an interview shows what an excellent student you must be! have fun on your auburn visit , S2 has friends there and they love it.

Thanks! I’m still waiting to see about how the scitech interview went, but as of right now UAB is still my third choice. I did like the campus more than I thought I would, but again I’m not really a city girl. So that’s kinda a downside to both UAB and FSU for me.

sci tech results should be coming out soon!! if you do pick uab…i think you will be very happy in sci tech!! wonderful program! S2 was an interviewer this year and says the quality of students applying that he met was really great

I liked what I heard about the program. I would say maybe your son was one of my interviewers, but my student scitech interviewer was also in EMSAP, so guess not.

nope he’s not in emsap, but may have been there mingling or was scheduled before or after you. if you want you can pm me…
