@iluvpiano, I think what @bridgenail is saying is that there will be some who receive offers within 3 weeks of each audition date because IU knows they really want them. Then there will be some they want, but they need to assess them in relation to candidates at each of the auditions so those acceptances won’t come out until after the final audition date in March. There are just so many variables (number of openings, number of people auditioning during each audition weekend) involved and it probably varies by instrument.
I know it is hard to be patient, especially when you are hearing about others receiving acceptances. My fingers are crossed for you.
I honestly don’t know. I can only “guess” that you may be right. For undergrad, I know in VP they rolled “acceptance” in the past. I’m not sure about declines as I don’t know anyone declined. My main point is I’m not sure everyone hears something within 2 - 3 weeks. My impression from going though the process was: if lucky, you could hear early and be accepted. Otherwise you may need to wait however long it takes. My guess is that has to do with dept needs and practices as well as numbers left to audition. If waiting however, you’re still under consideration!
Yup, guessing here as well. My son did hear in the 3 weeks but it was last year and a different instrument.
As @bridgenail says, no news means you are still in the running.
Alright thank you all. I know it’s guesses but it is helpful to hear some other opinions on it. So now I’ll just be terrified to open my emails next week in case they send me something…
Now I’m anxiously waiting with you too iluvpiano. Keep us posted!
One note, many schools do overbook, from past experience they know how many will likely accept admission that are offered (for example, at Juilliard as a whole the kids who enroll after being accepted is around 93%, whereas with another school I know it is about 75% accept, so Juilliard will probably ‘overbook’ a lot less than the second school).
@musicprnt yes that is probably true. At IU though I would guess a lot who are accepted would decide to go, since it is a great school, especially in the case of piano, and they tend to give out a decent amount of money from what I’ve heard, so that would influence people to go as well.
You can probably call the school and ask them. Most conservatories are pretty transparent with these numbers.
