I know this has probably been asked a million times but what does the usual college audition consist of for a vocal music education concentration?

They differ. Please go to the web sites for the schools you are interested in an read what they have posted- and keep notes!

The thing is that I did go to websites for the colleges I want to go to, and they didn’t tell me what the audition consists of… In fact they told me practically everything else!

When in doubt, call the school and ask. Most likely, a similar school will be explicit in its requirements and you can use that and extrapolate to the schookl that is not? Can you give us an example of a school that doesn’t spell it out for you instrument?

Often the audition requirements for each instrument are well buried within the school’s website. As geo suggests, call or email the school to ask about their requirements.

In the meantime, you can check out the websites of schools that do have their vocal audition requirements clearly stated.

At some schools the music ed audition is no different than the music performance audition in terms of requirements.

Typically schools will want between 2 and 5 memorized songs from the classical literature. Usually at least one or two languages other than English must be represented in the songs. Some schools will specify something along the lines of one Italian art song (pre-1800), one English art song, and one contrasting song in a third language.

Because each school has specific requirements, be certain to adhere to them. An amazing number of talented and intelligent vocalists (moreso than instrumentalists) appear to believe that they set the audition rules.
