Auditions!

For those of you who have been through it before, can you tell me who judges you at these Elon auditions for MT? Is it a group decision, or does one department member have final say? Just curious if it is the same as at other schools.

There were approximately 8-10 faculty members in the room at my daughter's audition. This included acting professors, voice professors and the head of the performing arts department and musical theater department. I believe all of these professors have scoring sheets which get added together to enable to staff to make their decision. Everyone was so nice at the Elon audition! It was a great experience for my d!

does anyone know how many people are accepted into the MT program each year?

Peggy, This has been discussed very recently on another Elon thread. They have said that they try for 16 in each class, although I believe they accept more than that in order to try to reach that amount. They have had closer to 20 the past couple of years, and this year's freshman class has 27, I believe. I would imagine they will limit how many they make offers to in the future, due to a higher acceptance ratio.

Does anyone know the number of people who audition for Elon's MT program? Number for acting program?

I think there were 300-350 last year for MT....I don't remember where I got that numer but I think that is right.

Seeing Cabaret Saturday!!!

Way overdue, but since there was such a terrific recap of the audition on the other thread to which there was very little to add, let me just say that Cabaret was terrific. NYDancemom's D was fantastic. How great to see her practically steal the show "en pointe"! D had a great time auditioning and seeing so many people she knew from the past. What a great program this is!

Yay for nydancemom's D! I have never had the pleasure of seeing her dance, but I have seen her and she is absolutely lovely. I am so glad that she is happy at Elon and that they are making the most of her considerable talents.

Thanks Mtgrlsmom and NotMamaRose. You guys are too kind! I have to say, we were quite surprised that D had a solo dance in Cabaret. I guess she was saving that as a surprise for the old Mom and Dad. Daughter and I hope both of your talented daughters have great success this audition season. Keep us posted!

Needless to say, Cabaret was AMAZING! So incredibly impressive.
