August move in Day for freshman

In addition to the June or July orientations, are there activities etc when the freshman move in Aug 24 as classes don’t start until August 28?

Yes, but the schedule of events will not be posted until closer to the time. Here is the page where it will be posted http://reslife.umd.edu/fallwelcome/

Thanks so much!

Wow, that’s a great move-in date. I’ll have him moved in & back home in time to see the eclipse!

No wait, I was so excited I got it backwards. He’ll be ABLE to see the eclipse with us AND THEN go to Maryland. (It’s kind of a big deal for an aerospace major) :">

I didn’t realize the move-in date was the 24th! D17 is still on the fence between UMD and another school, but that kind of sucks for her – it’s her 18th birthday.

@NerdMom88 Actually, how apropos…she will be literally moving into the adult phase of her life! And she will have a whole bunch of people to celebrate with - what a great icebreaker! As long as you arrange it in advance (at least a few days if not a week -I’m not exactly sure how much notice they need), you can order a cake and balloon to be delivered…http://terrapintreats.umd.edu/package-options/birthday-celebration.

If it helps to know, here is some more news to show you how there is constant excitement with Maryland engineering students…

@NerdMom88 I agree, it could really terrific for her to have her 18th birthday on move-in day. Put a sign on her door or on her- I had a t-shirt made for one of my kids when his birthday fell on a trip to Disneyworld, and it turned out awesome, but then again he was only 4 :))

Invite the nearby dorm-mates in for a slice of cake- could be fun!
