I'm an Australian student applying for an exchange to study in the USA for 6 months. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Theatre (specializing in Music Theatre) and would like a university that has a strong music theatre program, or straight music! I would love the university to have a great college atmosphere as well as great programs and teachers! I don't ask for much! ;)

Unfortunately I can not choose from any University in the US, as the institution I am studying at at present has a list of partner universities/colleges that I can apply for. So I was hoping that someone would be able to give me a little bit more information on one (or all!) of the below institutions and help me out with my big decision! :)

Endicott College; Northern State University; Southern Utah University; New Mexico State University; Eastern Illinois University; Buffalo State College; The University of Texas at Brownsville; and Casper College.

Also, if anybody has any information about the areas that these universities/colleges are in that would be amazing too! There's only so much information 'Google' can give me! :)

Thanks heaps everyone! I really look forward to reading your replies! :)

You also should visit the websites of each of the universities on the exchange list, and see what the different Musical Theater and Theater departments have to say about themselves. It also is fine to send an email to the department and ask what opportunities will be available to you if you go there for your exchange semester. That may help you make your decision.

Lastly, as you know the continental US is roughly the same size as Australia. If there is a particular part of the country that you would like to spend some time in, it is fine to choose your exchange location so that it is easier for you to travel to places you want to visit. Check each of the websites for information on visiting the campus. That will give basic travel directions from the nearest large city, and you will get a sense of how easy (or difficult) it can be to get to and from that college/university.

Wishing you many fine adventures during your exchange!

Don’t know anything about the academics at any of those. Will the six months be in the winter? If so, you’ve got some mighty cold, snowy locations in that list–Aberdeen South Dakota, Casper Wyoming and Buffalo New York, and Endicott is really the only one near a major metro area (Boston).

Thank you happymomof1 I have posted in the music theater major section of the website, and will definitely take your advice on contacting the schools directly! I have looked on all of the websites at their programs etc, but I was more wondering about individual opinions on the schools etc. Again, Thank you so much!!

Qialah - I believe that my exchange will begin in February/March of 2013, so… the end of your winter I think?! I’m not exactly used to the cold so maybe i should take that into consideration!! :)

Second semester will land you here in the winter. The only one on your list that is completely out of the snow zone is UT Brownsville. If you are from one of the snow-free parts of Australia, this could be your big chance to have snow adventures! Do check weather.com for the climate history of each of these places so that you get a better picture things.

To get an idea about the communities where these universities are located, check the websites of each of them for links to the local tourism office. This might be on the page with information for visitors, or about the campus. For example, here is where you could start looking for what is near Buffalo State: [Buffalo State College - Campus](http://www.buffalostate.edu/campus.xml) You also can google cityname+tourism and see what comes up.
