Aussies Unite!

lol i sent it in with normal post and it got in fine lol
only problem is im not getting george washington’s acceptance package! and i’ve requested that they send another one cuz th first one didnt arrive!
ah well i prob wont go there anywayz unless the aid is substantially large which i know wont happen in a million years lol

and about The Game. the day unis receive the packages doesnt matter as long as it was postmarked on the deadline wherever you send it in. and even if it is a few days late, most schools will still consider the application as long as everything is in place.
in addition, i didnt get my hsc reports signed by a solicitor or a jp or anything. just sent in a photocopied version with a letter saying if they want the results vertified, contact me or the school or any of the teachers recommendations i have included with my application. dont panic so much about these. they will notify you if something is wrong, needs vertification or is missing.

and no one knows for sure if he/she will get into a school (esp ivy league schools) even with perfect GPA, SAT, SAT 2s whatever. so don’t get overally confident or overly disappointed if you had these scores and did not get in. you just werent a fit for this school. other great schools would be glad to have you instead.

I second that VOCIFEROUSLY. I actually submitted my commonapp forms 1 minute before the deadline time (I had asked it through fb previously :D)

There was…?! I say there is :stuck_out_tongue: Talking about his test scores, I have to say there were far from perfect (a 790 in the CR section was the highlight), but he got the highest score in our school (so his ‘school’ competitors were already put aside in objective stats). I emphasized on Literature to implicitly mean that he was a playboy who studied little and partied hard (hope he doesn’t read this…). He had tons of ECs: one of the five best debaters of my city, great poetry writer, blah blahh. In short, his app was loaded. And he applied to a wide range of unis/LACs - from Brown to Franklin and Marshall but still got rejected somehoww. Another point: He was to get his Green Card in a yr’s time.

Doesn’t all of this confuse you?

DISCLAIMER: He had ~$0 FC. Guess that explains it…or does it not?? The debate will rage on b/w him and I. What about you guyz?

lol I am from a different part of the world where FedEx is the order of the day; normal post is suicide lol :)

Could anyone do me a favor (if u can spare ur time) to have a look at my first draft main essay…I’m totally lost and in great demand of advice!!!

PM me ur email and I’ll send it over
Thanx guys~!!!

the $0 EFC could do it if you were an international student.
College applications are SOOOO subjective though as st.g.i.dragons said. Like who knows what goes on in those AdCom’s heads. All I know is they thought I would work at USC and thats all that matters at the moment :)

He just wishes though that the adcom reviewing his app at just ONE LAC/uni had put enough sugar in his/her tea. Or not quarrelled with his/her better half yesternight…

hears his friend sobbing again

P.s. His name begins with Q, but even this wasn’t enough for their diversity aspirations. Just bad luck, I guesss:s

haha q being a diversity eh
well my first name is pretty uncommon lol

huanbing - go to essayforum.com.
its a site im (or at least used to be. havnet gone on it for a while) involved in as an assistant where if u post your essays we will correct it for you. it helped me A LOT during my process cuz i had no one else to check mine for me.

and beeish you wernet considered an international so your in a differnet category of consideration all togther lol

oh and 0 efc is definitely what it is. why would a school accept a student who outright says you give me a full scholarship.
he shouldve written at least like 20k or something then they might have given him full aid if he was that great.
i guess he wasnt good enough for a full ride

I agree that test scores arent everything, a girl from my score with perfect SATs for SAT I and II, UAI of >99.5 was rejected from yale too. I was pretty surprised because she’s a whiz of a writer - she wanted to be a journalist and her essays were AMAZING! In the end , I think her ECs let her down so yeah…just my little contribution.

wow i just read through 369 posts, i think.

ummm, first of all, congrats to all the ppl who got into a ridiculous amount of ivies. thats amazing.

HSC 2010 anyone?

and if im in year 11 this year. should i take my sats in december/january this/next year?

wow, this all sounds so close. im scared.

thanx dragons…I’ll check that forum out

Aininor
wow! like what do u mean by perfect score? 2400 plus 2400 for both SAT 1 and 2?..- -|| Crazy gril…
well…I guess Yale and other competitive schools never lacks applicants with perfect scores…or even UAI of 100, every standardize test with full marks…but I guess AO’s got pretty bored over these numbers and tend to look for someone different and interesting? Yes.interesting is the word!

You telling me that a name that begins with Q and has its fair share of o’s in it isn’t different? And he didn’t have perfect scores so he’s not in this girl’s category.

@st.g.i.dragons: ~$0 implies overconfidence, and he enjoyed tons of it, I assure you

@beenish: Lucky girl :)

@theGame: yerr i thought so. he seems like one of those kids. prob the unis saw that too

@kimmii: welcome to the club. or the forum for aussies. watever works. lol no one here got into ridiculous amount of ivies. if you’re in year 11 now that means you will be in year 12 come 4th term. so study these coming months and take the exams during oct/dec once to see how you go. if you dont get a decent score then study hard during the 1.5-2 months break and take it again in januaray. 2 sats should do it. dont do too much. then before hsc probs during july take sat 2s because they relate to the subjects you are learning (or at least should) and should be fresh in your mind.
and yer before you know it, you’re doing sats, then writing essays, sending apps and waiting for acceptance letters lol.

To concise st.g.i.dragons’s point, it’s Fast. And Furiouss
Get your nitrous ready :)

ahahhaaha thank you for that lol

You’re welcome!!

Hello all! Wow, I’ve just been through the whole thread. I’m a new member but not new on CC, been lurking around for almost a year now but only just found this thread because I’ve never been in the international section before, i was only in prep admissions, haha. Anyway, so glad to find an aussie thread!! And big congrats to those who have gained admission into US colleges! I am currently in year 11 in Queensland and for the past 6 months or so, I’m really starting to realise that I’m not happy with where I’m going in life especially after high school. Probably sounds all serious but does anyone just hate the education system here? I do and I don’t want to go on to uni here. I go to a pretty relatively good public school but I really don’t find much or any difference with high schools here, teachers controlling large 28 sized classroom, most kids don’t wanna learn and only like 35%-40% go on to uni. Some of my teachers just make me think “are you kidding me?”, they have no passion on their subject whatsoever and don’t know how to teach. Looking at all these world class ‘prep’ schools makes me feel almost sort of ‘cheated’ by the system here. Is it just me?lol I can’t talk to friends about these stuff because surprise surprise, they’re not into these stuff and wouldn’t have a clue what ‘Harvard’ is. Extra curriculars are almost unheard of here and the sense of cultural spirit is close to none apart from the annual ‘multicultural day’. I also find that the academics aren’t varied enough, like we only have, even the top private schools here, the same subjects like- physics, chemistry, biology, etc. And there are strict prerequisites on what subjects you need to take to do a course at uni which you need to have decided already in high school. I feel like I haven’t even done much to know exactly what I want to do and would really like to be a lot more well rounded and I’m beginning to think going to US college is the way to go. Please tell me i’m not the only one who feels this way.

hello ruby. Wow i’ve just read your long post lol
a new change can sometimes be for the best and sounds like it in your case. work hard in school no matter how unmotivated you maybe due to your classmates/teachers/general atmosphere. find a lot of off-school activities too to help you with ecs.
and rising up from the poor conditions can be a great subject for a fantastic essay.
good luck
