Autism/Asperger's

Anyone deal with either of those two in any way? Me=I actually have asperger's, so who knows.

Yes, I have Asperger's Syndrome, and possibly ADD (inattentive subtype). I have more internet friends than real life friends, and I have fewer friends than pretty much everyone I know, but eh, I don't really care (in any case, I idolize scientists with Asperger's). I more care about my problems with attention span, impulsivity, and distractibility.

You don't lack anything in the way of a social life if you never even hear about what a social life is. Then you won't compare urself to others and feel sad about it.

And for those who say "OMG SOCIALIZING IS GOOD FOR YOU", well, different peope have different ways of achieving satisfaction (none of them intrinsically better than any other), and socializing may not be one of them for many. Sure we have to interact, but it's a game of diminishing marginal utility. Hell, most teenagers socialize as much as I surf the Internet (in other words, for >8 hours per day) and they still don't have the best social skills.

I did really well in school, but then copped out in college (I'm in an early entranceprogram BTW). I managed to get through school by all-nighters - and when they fail in college, the consequences are very very deadly. That, and I also became a nihilist.

As for medications - I wasn't on any until recently - and those are to control my ADD symptoms, not anything else (bupropion, btw, and I don't really notice its effects...yet...). Depression is more likely for those with Asperger's, but I become apathetic rather than depressed. Besides, I don't hold on any feelings for very long.

E-mail me at achen89@u.washington.edu if you want to talk more. But it's finals week and I'm behind, and I need all the time I can get, so do it after thursday.

There have been several threads here about this if you're interested.
