Hi. My son has been accepted to Occidental. He’s on the Autism spectrum, gifted academically, but less fluent socially. What is your opinion of the Oxy community’s openness and acceptance of such differences?

Hi there. While I personally haven’t experienced the student life at Occidental, I can assure you that with the small student body, there is a lot more time to connect with faculty and have them on the same page as your son. Communally, Oxy is a very diverse and open group of students and I have heard that though there may be a stereotype for quirky personalities, the school does its best to make everyone feel welcome! I could be wrong on this since I don’t have any actual experience and have only done research online, but I believe that your son will be alright at Occidental. Hope this helps!
