Average amount of Community Service?

What is it? Some people have a 1000 hours. Is that average? I have closer to 100 hours. Is that going to hurt?

Of course I disagree with the idea of measuring volunteer work in general, but that might just be because I don't have much. If I had more maybe it would be the best idea in the world.

Btw: I have another year to get in more volunteer work.

My high school requires 15 hrs for graduation, and many of last year's Harvard admits from my school did nothing more than that. Neither community service, nor anything else, is a prerequisite for admission to Harvard.

why don't you spend your time ons omething you enjoy rather than trying to rack up hours? :)

Some people actually enjoy community service, me being one of them.

people who enjoy community service go out and do it... they don't spent their time thinking of how many hours they have to hit for Harvard

I know what you mean and completely agree with it, but this still is a worthwhile question. After all, we all ask what the average sat scores, gpa, and class rank of Harvard admits are, why not community service hours?

Probably because it is a lot lower than most people would think.

Either way I think it could be a positive thing...better people spend countless hours volunteering than prepping for the SATs.
