Average Class

Ok, so everyone here is AP,Honors w.e.
Is anyone in Average, regular classes? In fact, i haven't seen one average class implied on CC. LOL.

At my school even the kids that SHOULD be in regular are in honors.

Yeah, same here!

most of my class takes regular..less than 25% of all 610 take some honors/AP

Sometimes there are no honors classes for things. I had to take the Physics R this year because there is no Physics A. Both follow the Regents curriculum but A implies accelerated/honors. Otherwise I don't see any reason for taking an 'average' class as you call it.

My school doesn't offer AP classes. So that pretty much sucks. And I don't think that they offer too many honors classes either. So even though I'm a 4.0 student I feel like I'm not working on challenging enough work. And its not like I can transfer schools because my town only has one school available. :/

Yeah my school has no AP/Honors either, so I (a 4.0 student) am routinely placed in classes with kids who are failing or have failed once and are trying to pass again. I had the option of taking Algebra 1 in 8th grade, which is the only sort of advanced class there is. There is a difference between the college prep track and the non-college track, but that basically translates to "average" and "below average". The kids that do go to college don't go for Ivies, just local schools or a community college, so no one really sees the need for classes more advanced than that. It doesn't really create any motivation.

As for your question, is anyone in regular classes, I doubt you'll find very many on here that are in regular classes because they chose to be...

The quality of normal classes at my school is so low that even if you're of average intelligence, you pretty much have to take all the APs possible in order to get any decent stimulation.

Of course, even the AP classes are so easy that people with the highest GPAs in the school still get 1800 on the SATs.

Yeah, public education...

it is rare for people at my school to take nothing but honors and APs-- people will either take mostly regular classes with honors/AP level in the things they're strong in, or maybe take mostly high-level classes with one or two regular ones. this past year (junior) i took 1 AP, 2 honors, and 2 regular level classes-- next year it'll be 3 APs and 1 honors (crikey!).

QUOTE:

SAME HERE. in my school, there would only be like 6 or 7 kids in honors if they didn't let people that should be in regular in. as a matter of fact, this past year, there was only 6 kids in the AP chemistry class.

My old school didn't even have regular classes. All their classes were either honors or AP.

Yepp, thats like my school. I've never heard of anybody from my school ever going to an Ivy. It seems like most of the students in my school could care less about their education. In alot of my classes its hard to get through the class because the students think they are all that and a bag of chips. I guess that it will hit them in the real world... Of course my whole school isn't like that, but it seems especially true for my class.

At my old public school everyone was in Advanced English and social studies...9th and 10th grade...it was written like= English 9A/10A and World history 9A/10A
Then for 11th grade it was: 11R(regents English)/AP English
12R(english)/ AP english..

US HistoryR/GOV'tR(Regents) or AP of those 2

now in my private school everyone takes the same courses

I'm in mostly regular because I take many business classes and there's no Honors/Advanced though they are available for college credit. But for Social Studies, I'm AP all the way. =]

My school puts the wrong people in AP. There's been so many cheating rings/scandals. Yet, the school does nothing and keeps the cheaters in AP. Ivies happen..once every other year probably? It's very rare. 50%-60% of this year's graduating class is going to community college next year. How's that for achievement?

My school requires some Regular classes for graduation like World History (with choices in European, Asian, Middle Eastern, and African), Civics, and Health. So everyone is in a few Regular classes, unless they do correspondence (which is limited to 1 credit aka 1 year-long class).

most people are in CP (college prep), but there are some techies in there. theres a good number of honors-ap, not much though.

actually kids at my school take ap even when they should be in regular, the teachers would recommend you into ap even if you have a C in honors...

Woah, brother. Are you to decide who should and shouldn't be in Honors?
If they're streching themselves to be there, all the power to them!

(that was to Armando, by the way)

my school is pretty far behind academically compared to some of these other schools. for example, you can't even take an AP class until you are a senior (only a few let you take it as a junior). freshman year, you can only take an honors math or english, nothing else. i am in a regular history class, just because i absolutely hate history. at my school, usually there are 3 below regular sections of any given class, 7 regular sections, and 3 honors; most of the people in honors, really should not be there though.

I used to be in some "average" classes in Freshman year. That was when I could care less about anything. Then I started jumping up levels.
