Average GPA, Below Average SAT

I can't believe I'm posting a chance me thread...
Sigh

Anyway,

I'm a high school senior desperate to leave the island of Hawaii. So far I've applied to 2 schools and have 2 more to go. The thing is my GPA is pretty mediocre and I'm terrible at standardized tests.

GPA: 3.1 (Our school doesn't do that weighted/unweighted thing.)
SAT: 500R-450M-510W

I've been taking mostly honors and AP's since sophomore year and my current courses are:

Honors Physics, AP Psychology, AP Statistics, Photography 2, AP Literature & Composition, and Spanish 2.

Applied:
CUNY - Baruch College (Rolling Admissions)
St. John's University (NY) (Rolling Admissions)

Going to Apply:
Pace University
University of Hawaii

So, what are my chances?

*Edit
MISC. Info:

-Great essay

I'm not familiar with those colleges, but to help other people out, what are you extracurriculars, your race & socioeconomic status, and how did your English teacher (or another adult well versed in writing) think of your essays?

Thanks for replying. I edited my info.

St. Johns you should get in no problem, my schools list from last year, the lowest GPA/SAT that got accepted to St. JOhns was 330/330/380 CR/M/WR. GPA 71.

Pace from the list, 84 GPA 510/550/500

Baruch 76 GPA 460/380/370

University of Hawaii no idea

^ thanks!
where'd you get that info from? j/w

live in the general vicinity of these schools, we have alot of kids apply to them, we get a book of the previous years(2007) apps/admissions and the scores they applied with, no names just the scores stats. So have it at hand.

So I gave you the lowest accepted levels so you see your well if not above the range of theses kids who got in. Good luck

Some of these schools do on site admits in our school, just show them your transcript give you an answer on the spot.

you have no idea how much you made my day...or month actually

thanks for everything. btw, you think it helped that i applied early?

nevermind, dumb question

no not a dumb question, sure youll get your answer early and you can then do fun stuff instead of this crap :)

I think you will get into St Johns also and I wouldn't be surpised if you got into Pace. Good job applying early and it can only help being from Hawaii. Sorry I don't know too much about the other schools.

thanks samiamy :)

poi - nice name, haha. idk if you know it but that's the name of a favorite dish in hawaii :P thanks for your reply!

i live here in Hawaii too! You're probably going to be accepted to UH but i have heard that the minimum was 510s on both math and reading.

You should get into St. Johns, but I am not too familiar with the other schools. Are you REALLY sure you want NYC? It is another planet from Hawaii, and the commute is fairly pricey.

Raenna, actually I didn't know that! A lot of kids where we live go to Pace and St. Johns. I've seen some of the kids that have gone to Pace throughout the years and they are very happy there. I have not seen any of the kids who went to St. Johns. Pace is located in a very nice area and it is a short distance (probably about 1.5 miles) to the town of Pleasantville. The town is small and actually runs into another town,Thornwood. There are restaurants and shops in both towns. I know there is a Japanese and Italian restaurant there. Some chains too. There is also a train station right in town so you can get into NYC pretty quickly (about half an hour). The city of White Plains is about 10 minutes away by car and it is a nice size city with plenty to do and 2 malls. The area is very safe.

hawaii, i dunno but all other colleges are in your reach
good luck

tcjables24 - yeah i heard that too. i just recently talked to my counselor about that and she said i should be o.k. because of the english and math classes i'm enrolled in now. idk if that's true, but we'll see. my ACT meets the 22 requirement so i'll probably just end up submitting that.

fencersmother - thank you for your reply. my choice to attend school in nyc wasn't a rash decision that i pulled out of nowhere. i have an aunt and uncle who live in manhattan and i've been communicating with them about my options. i don't plan to fly back home every break so i think i'm o.k. after living on an island for more than a decade, i'm ready for that other planet. ;)

poi - thanks for that info.! i think you're talking about pace's pleasantville campus? i heard some things about it, but was actually planning on attending the one in manhattan. doesn't sound too bad though, maybe i'll look into it. :)

someStudent - thanks, good luck to you too!

Yes I was. Sorry about that. There is another college(College of Mt. Saint Vincent) located in Riverdale NY which is a very nice section of the Bronx. It has a nice campus overlooking the Hudson River and is another college that kids seem to look at. I don't know much about it, but it is very close to the city.

thanks poi!

I live in NYC, and I'd say that you will defintitely get into St. Johns. I also that that you have a good shot at Baruch, the only thing holding you back could be your math score, if even. Good Luck!!

yeah that bloody 450...*sigh
thanks for the info tho! :)
