average jewish kid's chance?

1700<x<1900

You are one of those retards in school who think they are really smart and apply to amazing schools. You need to deflate your ego big man. By looking at your short post, I can already tell that you're one of those people.

Sorry if I sound overly harsh, but there's just too many of your type of peopel these days. This is the cause of a 9 percent ad rate for Harvard. I have a kid in school who has crap GPA and crap SAT (old 1100) who applied to HArvard last year. His principal reason? He was the captain of the football team. Therefore, he thought he owned the world. By the way, our football team won 2 games throughout the entire season last year.

From one Jewish kid to another:

MIT: Reach
CalTech: Reach
NYU: Slight Reach
Stanford: Super Reach
Georgetown: Reach
UCB: Reach

The only schools you listed are super competitive. I'm a Jewish high school senior w/ higher GPA, etc. and the only school on your list I applied to was UCB. Hopefully you also applied to some other UC's (UCD, UCSD, UCSB are awesome and you have a better shot.) Good luck and try to find some safety/match schools.

"Average Jewish kid"? For a Jew, you're well below average. Welcome to the club!

'"Average Jewish kid'? For a Jew, you're well below average. Welcome to the club!"

floridastudent593: what are your story? I'm below average in the Jewsigh category because I suck at standardized tests (1740 SAT), otherwise (4.2GPA/4.0UC/3.8UW, 300+hrs comm service, good awards: Nat'l Young Leaders Conf., Boy's State, etc.) I guess I'd fit the mold...how about you?

No you dont, he has a crappy rank, ecs, gpa, and test scores.

To be honest, your admissions at college will not be based on your religious faith. The title of this thread is actually a bit offensive to me. It implies that somehow your religion should be considered in the admissions process.

I agree w/ thumper1. I posted in here because I'm also Jewish and the name of the thread caught my attention. Last time I checked, Judaism is a religion, not an ethnicity and shouldn't help/hurt your chances.

Again, his thread title demonstrates his inevitably obvious display of .....stupidity. (I feel like such a jerk right now.....)

omfg you guys are all idiots.

Stop blasting the kid and saying hes stupid. It's obvious that you are the morons for believing him. Can you not tell hes trolling? Don't get how you people get high marks in CR section of SAT.

Someone before in the post said he should just apply to some community college.... (i agree with that person)

The schools you're applying to are extremely competitive. (I'm applying to Georgetown, NYU STERN and UChicago) I don't want to boast, but I have far higher SAT Score (when converted from ACT) and better extracurriculars/work experience. The only thing similar between you and me is that we both have low GPA (3.45). I have no idea how that'll balance out but I think I have a chance. If you think you do; then by all means - apply and see what happens.

I'll only be really ***ed off if you get in and I dont. *Lol

How about Brandeis or Northeastern if you like the Boston area?

My only Safety school is NYU...
I consider myself to be an exceptional chess player. My USCF rating is in top 100 list of 17 year olds in America. I was captin of the chess team that won nationals. I even met the President and managed to get reco's from him and other senators and mayors. My work experience in the bank is defintely something else that's notable ^__^

NYU STERN is not a safety school, that's just egotism. Now you're ranked 113 in your class, your SAT is 1870, you got a 660 on your only SAT II and you haven't taken a single AP course. Right off the bat your stats are nowhere near the range of any of the schools on your list. Chess is a good thing but I don't think it's enough to make up for the other things at any of those schools except maybe NYU. Interning at a bank is not notable. From what we've heard so far, it's just another job like any other teenager, so what makes it notable? And just how many recommendations did you get? I have trouble believing you got a full recommendation from the president after just a short meeting or two and you're giving off the impression that you have a large number of rec. letters which is never a good idea. And how well do any of these "big politicians" know you?

Point is, it can't hurt to apply to these schools, but don't be cocky. Apply to some lower schools because none of the schools on that list are safe for you.

I'm leaning towards business (i'm taking alot of business classes and CollegeNow at my high school), so what about NYU STERN?

bumpppp bumpppp bumpppp bumpppp

You're bumping 16 minutes after you last posted??

This is a joke. It's decided.

It's this simple: You need more "match" schools, and less "reach" schools.

top school will not count it in your favor if you get a rec from a politician that they think doesn't know you well. Your chess extra curricular is great but you really need to be applying to schools that are lower.
