This has probably been asked before in some form or another, but I was wondering about how to take the SAT ranges and percentiles provided by colleges in their viewbooks, etc. and estimate the average SAT score an average unhooked, non-athletic recruit admitted student has. Stanford, for instance, has a very strong athletic program, which probably means that they compromise on SATs for those students, and is probably why their average SATs are slightly lower than HYP, at least I think they are. Anyway, how could you cut through that and see what an unhooked student is expected to have?

There really isn’t a way besides guessing the actual SAT range for unhooked students to be 10-30 points higher. In any case, after looking at the common data set for 2010-2011, I would say the 75th percentile for Critical Reading (760), math (790), writing (780) and ACT (34) is very accurate.
