My son was accepted last week, applied way back when with the Leadership App but they wanted mid-year grades before the decision. There was no mention of financial aid or merit award with the acceptance. What has been your experience?

My daughter received her merit aid award with her letter of acceptance in the mail. She was accepted in late November. Then, a couple of weeks ago, she received a surprise-an additional merit award. I have no idea what prompted it, we had not contacted admissions. There was no explanation either, just a short note explaining that they were increasing the total for the year.

Despite the merit money, it is still a very expensive school. She really likes it though and is considering it carefully. She is still waiting to hear from a couple more universities, so it will be a few weeks before the final decision.

My son was also just accepted and no merit award mentioned in letter. I hope they offer some! Otherwise, I doubt we could afford it and it’s supposed to be a great school. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

I broke down and emailed the Financial Aid office. They said his letter would be coming next week. Whew–but another week of waiting.

My son received an invitation to apply with the Leadership application sometime around December 20, and three weeks later received via the postal service an admission letter that included a merit award in the text. After his high school sent the mid-year report in mid-February, he received an offer of additional merit money. I do know of at least one classmate that had a much less successful fall semester (gpa declined a bit) and did not receive that second offer of additional merit money. Because of this, we just assumed the offer of additional merit aid was tied to the mid-year report.

In any case, we’re very happy with the offer.

i got accepted in december, no merit aid
and i just got my aid package…not enough…i cant go :(

^ I’m sorry to hear that. Where else are you considering?
