Award package screwup

This may seem like a dumb question but it really has me anxious. When accepting award package for financial aid at WGU, I accidently clicked on a wrong answer. Below is the question.

Do you want to be awarded federal student loans? Accept recommended loans

I wanted to accept a little more than what my total tuition was for upcoming educational expenses(time to upgrade laptop, additional study resources, etc...). I receive the pell grant but accidentally declined stafford loan. My financial aid award letter arrived today with just enough to cover tuition. Is this something that the fin aid office can reverse? I cant believe that I was so careless in my actions in clicking the wrong item.
Again I apologize if this seems like Im making a big deal or something but I am looking for answers from you all out there and hoping to ease my nerves. I know I need to call the fin aid office monday but im a bit of a nervous wreck over it.

I appreciate your answers in advance. Thank you. This is such a great forum.

Yes, they can do that. Just contact your school’s financial aid office.

Thank you for your reply.
I’d like to elaborate a little too - as Im not sure my original post was worded correct.

The way the school does its process is strange. I accidentally picked the option where it said accept recommended loans instead of requesting all loans.

So then after that - a day or two later on saturday I get my official award letter. Pell grant plus like 300$ of stafford loan. It covers the tuition exactly. I thought that since I didnt “decline” any loans they wouldnt change my award. I basically answered that I only needed enough for tuition.

Maybe Im blowing this up into something its not - just worried as I have a good bit of expenses coming up for my course load as they are upper level courses where I need additional resources.

Thanks again and thanks 4kidsdad.

You cannot receive subsidized stafford loans for more than your demonstrated need.

I received them last time. It was just that I clicked on the wrong button this time.

^Contact your school’s financial aid office. They would tell you if you can change or not.

Thanks sybbie719 and 4kidsdad. Definitely calling the office in the morning.

You will be able to change your answer. They will most likely ask you to complete and submit a loan adjustment request, but that is no big deal. I ask my students to submit their loan requests at the end of June, so that I have time to process (everything is manual where I work) and so that any Grad PLUS denials can be handled. I encourage them to contact me to make adjustments at any time after that - since it is very possible that they will decide they need more or less when the bill is actually there is front of them. It’s not a big deal to make the changes!
