Is there any difference in the fin aid/ scholarships schools offer before submitting facts and after submitting facts ? Our child applied to 3 schools so far. She was offered decent merit scholarships with the acceptance letters. That was before we submitted the faces, which we just did to all three schools yesterday. Does anyone know if they will offer more based on the FAFSA or is that not done ? We are in Texas and child applied to state colleges. Thank you
Ugh. Before submitting FAFSA and after submitting FAFSA.
It seems that merit money is not tied to income. Merit money will most likely not change.
The FAFSA essentially determines your eligibility for federal aid. If your child is eligible for federal aid, it is an entitlement and your child will still receive it. Depending on your school’s cost of attendance, your child will be eligible for sub/unsub loans.
IF your child is eligible for state aid (which is in most cases used to offset tuition), if the merit money does not cover all of tuition, your child will still receive state aid .
The answer is…merit is not going to change. Your financial need, however, will be reduced at those schools by the amount of your merit aid.
Just submit the fafsa and wait and see.
Merit scholarships are usually issued by Admissions dept, not the FA office.
Thank You.
