Awards & Honors Discrepancy on UC Application

Hello y’all, I have a slight problem that may affect how the UC system will see my application & transcript later. My school offers a Leadership & Social Change certificate that requires us to complete certain number of units from classes offered at my college… I completed a majority of these classes and thought I finished the certificate back in 2015, but I realize now that 4 of those units have not yet been completed. I already completed my Transfer Application Update on time, but failed to catch this issue.

After reviewing my application again, I noticed that after putting it under the Honor & Award section, I did not fully write out that it was a certificate program. Can I get away with it on there and explain how I participated in the program without fully completing it? Usually what happens with this certificate is that it shows up on my transcript as finished, but I realize now that it will not without those 4 units…

Should I contact someone about this discrepancy? I’m worried about what will happen down the line and if it will come up as a problem.

Awards are not traditionally listed on transcripts. Therefore, if you described the certificate as an award program rather than a certificate, then they would not expect it to be listed on a transcript. Regardless UCs care about the courses that were taken not whether or not they fit into specific programs at the former institutions. They don’t even look at the titles of former programs that transfer were in.

This is, however, a good learning experience because certificates will matter to graduate schools and employers so you never want to jump the gun and record something before it is finalized.
